The Helen Hayes Awards honor achievement, celebrate, and promote the Washington D.C. professional theatre. One of the country's most prestigious cultural honors, The Helen Hayes Awards recognizes and celebrates excellence in professional theatre throughout the Washington metropolitan area. The 22nd Annual Helen Hayes Awards were presented this evening on April 17, 2006 during a gala celebration that drew a sold out crowd of nearly 2,000 theatre artists and supporters to The Warner Theatre in the heart of downtown Washington, DC.
