Opening September 4th through the 27th, The Adobe Theater brings Miller’s classic and poignant story to to the stage. Performances will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2:00pm. Saturday, September 19th, matinee only at 2:00pm. Thursdays, September 10 and 25 at 7:30pm ($10 tix available). Directed by Georgia Athearn, The Crucible remains one of the most powerful and enduring dramas in American theatre. Set during the Salem witch trials of 1692, the play explores the devastating consequences of fear, suspicion, and the willingness of a community to sacrifice truth in the pursuit of certainty. Written in 1953 as a response to the anti-communist hysteria of the McCarthy era, Miller's masterpiece continues to resonate with audiences through its compelling characters, emotional intensity, and profound examination of conscience and integrity. More than seventy years after its premiere, The Crucible feels as relevant as ever. In an age marked by misinformation, polarization, and the rapid spread of public accusations, Miller's cautionary tale reminds us of the importance of critical thinking, moral courage, and the defense of justice—even when doing so comes at great personal cost. Its timeless themes invite audiences not only to reflect on history, but also to consider the choices individuals and communities face in the present day. In the words of Director Georgia Athearn: “Having performed in several of Miller’s plays, my fascination with The Crucible was always just beyond my grasp as an actress due to age and other circumstances beyond my control. Therefore, I chose to direct the play that I had come to love and understand as a strong message to our current society. As the Adobe Theater’s artistic committee began the play selections for 2026, I proposed The Crucible because I felt the current political climate needed to hear and see how ridiculous we all are in our accusations against each other. Our citizens are panicked from fear and have turned to lash out at one another rather than attempting to embrace and understand our differences. I hope The Adobe’s production of The Crucible will help us see that we all have a voice in our society.”
