George C. Wolfe to Direct Film with Lane, Gere, Etc.

According to the New York Times, Tony Award-winner George C. Wolfe will helm the upcoming Warner Brothers film Nights in Rodanthe, based on the novel by Nicholas Sparks.

Nights in Rodanthe will star Diane Lane, Richard Gere, "Law & Order: SVU"'s Christopher Meloni and James Franco.  As the article (via the Hollywood Reporter) describes the film, "Gere plays a doctor who stops at an inn in North Carolina while traveling to reconcile with his estranged son. At the beach town, the doctor has a life-changing romance with an unhappily married woman (Lane). Meloni is playing the role of Lane's husband, while Franco plays Gere's estranged son."

Formerly the artistic director of New York's Public Theater, Wolfe won Tonys for directing Bring in 'Da Noise, Bring in 'Da Funk and Angels in America: Millenium Approaches.  He has also received Tony Award-nominations for helming Caroline, or Change, Elaine Stritch at Liberty, Angels in America: Perestroika and Jelly's Last Jam.  The author of plays such as The Colored Museum, he has also been nominated for Tonys for either writing or co-writing the books of Jelly's Last Jam and The Wild Party.  His other Broadway directorial credits include Topdog/Underdog, On the Town, The Tempest and Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992.  He directed "Lackawanna Blues" for HBO, among other projects, and has also acted in sufh films as The Devil Wears Prada and Garden State.
