Diwali Fest Presents "Diwali Downtown Vancouver", presented by Hyundai, on Saturday, November 7 from 2pm to 8pm at The Roundhouse.
Now in its 12th year, Diwali Fest is an annual South Asian arts and culture festival celebrating the universal light that exists in everyone. Drawing over 15,000 people, Diwali Fest aims to unite different cultures through celebratory events during the festival of Diwali and to allow South Asian art forms to evolve through other cultural influences, while at the same time influencing others. Continuing with the artistic theme of "Unity in Diversity", Diwali Fest invites you to participate in one of its main events:
What: Diwali Downtown Vancouver
Where: The Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Centre (181 Roundhouse Mews)
When: Saturday, November 7 from 2:00pm to 8:00pm
Diwali Downtown Vancouver is a FREE event that brings together the best of contemporary and classical Indian culture for the entire family. This year's event will include a Bharatnatyam performance from Malavika Santhosh; a classical Indian music performance by Lapis; additional music performances from Amarjit Singh featuring tabla, sitar, mridangham; Bollywood dance performances from Karima Essa and Andaaz Entertainment; a performance by Indo-Pak band naQsh; breakdancing with the DRS B-Boy Crew; an African song and dance workshop along with a performance by Jacky Essombe; and of course, Bhangra.
In addition, Diwali Downtown Vancouver will feature a kids play zone, South Asian crafts and cuisine, mehndi, and a room-sized rangoli presented by BCAA. Those in attendance will be able to engage in numerous cultural workshops from Sari wrapping to Bharatnatyam dance to breakdancing. The event will also feature a spoken word piece, a children's performance, and a special presentation from Deputy Mayor of Vancouver, Andrea Reimer.
