ACS Random in association with Jermyn Street Theatre Presents the world premiere of THE CAUSE
By Jeremy James, Director Andrew Shepherd, Designer Zahra Mansouri, Lighting Designer Julian MacCready. The performances will take place at Jermyn Street Theatre, March 1 to 26, 2016.

1963 Oxfordshire - an ageing heavily accented painter seeks the help of a psychoanalyst to look into the causes of his sudden partial paralysis which seems to have no physical origins. Memories of some forty years earlier transport him back to his homeland of the Balkans and Hungary of 1914, to his youthful political zealotry, to the fervour for independence, to a planned act of enormous international consequence and an actual act of grave personal cost. What emerges is Sandor's devastating experience, the intensely personal yet massively political story of a man who was in Sarajevo on that Summer's day in 1914 when Archduke Ferdinand drove into town and when a single event took place that was to shape the twentieth century

Based on actual events, The Cause explores themes of urgent contemporary resonance, of nationalism, fanaticism, youthful zeal and its exploitation by those with an extremist agenda. By illuminating events of the past, The Cause sheds a stark light on the present.

Jeremy James has written numerous Christmas shows for children and an extensive range of promotional and training films for corporate clients, principally financial institutions. Many of the films have featured such well-known 1960s actors as Arthur Lowe, Robert Morley, James Robertson Justice, Michael Denison, Dulcie Gray, Donald Sinden. Edward Judd and Bill Pertwee.

Andrew Shepherd originally trained as an actor at LAMDA after completing his law degree at Newcastle University. Recent directing credits include the sell out productions of Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet at Park Theatre, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello at Chelsea Theatre and the award winning Trainspotting at the Leicester Square Theatre. Andrew is the Artistic Director of ACS Random, which he founded and the author of a number of plays and screenplays. He was recently announced as the new Executive Director of Theatre 503.

ACS Random was founded in 2002 with a dedication to the development of new work from script to production with a particular emphasis on new writing and making classic work relevant to a modern audience. Their recent work includes the award nominated double bill The Knight From Nowhere/The Bells at Park Theatre, Hamlet, Much Ado About Nothing (also at Park), The Shakespeare Conspiracy, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Othello at Chelsea Theatre. They have an interest in supporting emerging talent, a commitment to working as an ensemble and putting the audience first.

The Cause follows I Loved Lucy - Lee Tannen's intimate portrait of America's comic sweetheart Lucille Ball, starring Sandra Dickinson and directed by Jermyn Street Theatre's artistic director Anthony Biggs.
