On Sunday, November 15 at 7 p.m., American jazz guitarist, composer and arranger Julian Lage, recently featured at Carnegie Hall, will perform with his trio in the Palladium's intimate Side Door. Lage's music is rooted in both traditional and acoustic forms; Lage is counted among today's contemporary jazz heavy-hitters.

With his trio, Lage's Palladium performance presents an improvising ensemble featuring electric guitar (Telecaster), acoustic bass, and drums. Playing original music as well as standards of the American jazz and folk traditions, the Julian Lage Trio draws influence from the modern jazz guitar trio of Jim Hall, and explores the integration of acoustic and electric instruments in an improvising context.

Lage was the subject of the Academy Award-nominated documentary Jules at Eight, and has collaborated with Jim Hall, Mark O'Connor, among many others. In addition to his own trio and quintet, Lage has recorded with Gary Burton, David Grisman, Martin Taylor, Joshua Bell and Yoko Ono. Lage's album Sounding Point was Grammy-nominated in 2010 as Best Contemporary Jazz Recorging. His most recent album with jazz pianist Fred Hersch titled Free Flying received a coveted five-star review in Downbeat Magazine.
