The JOBURG MEETS CAPE TOWN POETRY SHOWCASE is an events programme founded by Luxolo Ngqunge, aka Last Poet, continuing the art revolution of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, which became a tool for liberation when South Africa was still facing the life struggle of racism and apartheid. With South Africa facing, in more recent times, different struggles such as unemployment, teenage pregnancy, alcoholism and drug abuse, Ngqunge's programme aims to use the same movement, an artistic revolution in the medium of poetry, to assist the youth of today in overcoming such struggles and help them lead a meaningful and successful life. The JOBURG MEETS CAPE TOWN POETRY SHOWCASE features poets from Johannesburg, showcasing their talent and capabilities as the youth of South Africa and reviving the South African Hip Hop tradition of poetry recitals. This particular 90-minute event will be showcasing Hlox Da Rebel, Qamata, ThinkinCap, Sibusiso Ndebele, Isah Ngalo, Puleng Radebe, Fikile Fifi, PoeticButterfly, Griot and Thembizandi. These poets will celebrate the freedom for which Nelson Mandela fought, mentally liberated by the power of freedom of speech and ready to embrace the beauty of our country's art.
