Mpapa Simo Majolaat in THE FUNERAL

THE FUNERAL, written and performed by Mpapa Simo Majolaat, choreographed by Billy Langa and directed by Phala O. Phala will play the Alexander Upstairs Theatre and the Makukhanye Art Room as part of the Cape Town Fringe this month.

In physical and lyrical vignettes and disconnected monologues, THE FUNERAL is a meditation on our fraught connection with life and death. Scotch finds his spirit caught up in the space of limbo, where he is yet to sense the presence of God or the burning of the eternal flames of Hell. Maybe the injustice that keeps him from crossing over is that he was not buried in his favourite jacket, or is it the notion that has always stayed in his mind: that all the existing dogmas and religions just attempt to find a way to carry on.

THE FUNERAL runs from 21 - 24 September 2017 at the Alexander Upstairs in the Cape Town city centre and from 23 - 25 September at the Makukhanye Art Room in Khayelitsha, with tickets costing R45-R70 available from the Cape Town Fringe website. Follow the Alexander Bar, Café and Theatre on Facebook and Twitter and The Makukhanye Art Room on Facebook for further information.
