This fall, Marin Theatre Company unleashes their 2016-17 Family Series season with tales of growing up, friendship, and self discovery. Kicking off its second Family Series Season of Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) plays is writer and performer Jim Napolitano with his original shadow puppet story, Father Goose's Tales. With an original libretto by Hector Cremieux and Ludovac Halevy and now directed by Ralph Bott and orchestrated by Jon Smith, this version is based on 2nd version, of 1874. The sub-title is Opera Feerie which translates as "extravaganza", and in 1874 it was an absolute extravaganza. The cast was comprised of 42 named principals; 100 choristers (men, women and children), and sufficient dancers for four Grand Ballets (10 Principals, 16 corphees and 60 dames des corps de ballet) … A grand total of 228 performers Offenbach's comic, bitingly satirical, witty and occasionally "naughty" parody of the tragic Orpheus legend involving the Mount Olympus Gods of classical Greek mythology is a farcical, merry romp that has delighted audiences The World Over since its Paris premiere in 1858. (New York) – July 13, 2016 – Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, recognized by U.S. Congress as “a vital American cultural ambassador to the world,” returns to the United Kingdom, Lausanne, Switzerland, and Copenhagen, Denmark to perform a dozen ballets from September 6 – October 30. Robert Battle will lead Ailey through the UK (September 9 – October 19) for the first time since becoming Artistic Director, including the Company's inaugural visits to Southampton and Canterbury, England. Presented by Dance Consortium, the UK engagement will include 10 works performed across 10 cities.
