A Class Act NY, Manhattan's award-winning acting studio for kids and teens, is hosting a SCHOOL OF ROCK workshop with stars of the Broadway cast. In this special session, John Hemphill (MAMMA MIA!, SCHOOL OF ROCK) and Shahadi Wright Joseph (The Lion King, SCHOOL OF ROCK) will work with students of all skill levels, ages 7-24, on a song and dance combination from the musical. Hemphill will teach the "Guitar Hero" sequence, and Joseph, a student of A Class Act NY and a child star of SCHOOL OF ROCK, will teach a song and dance cut of "Stick it to the Man!" (more...)

Along with Theatre in the Park, Playmakers Repertory Company and ABC 11, Durham Performing Arts Center is thrilled to present the culmination of this year's Triangle Rising Stars program announced from a record number of applicants. The Triangle Rising Stars Live Showcase and Awards show will take place at DPAC on Monday, June 6 at 7:00 p.m. starring the student finalists from Triangle-area high school musical productions. Triangle Rising Stars is a non-profit education initiative created in 2010 to celebrate high school theater students who participate and excel with wide -ranging talents in their musical productions. Triangle Rising Stars is a regional qualifying program for the National High School Musical Theatre Awards (NHSMTA). (more...)

The Broadway Education Alliance Inc. presented The Roger Rees Awards for Excellence in Student Performance (formerly the Gershwin Awards) on Sunday, May 22 at The Beacon School in Manhattan. The two-hour showcase hosted by Tim Federle (co-writer of Tuck Everlasting) featured 35 students who had played leading roles at 26 high school located throughout the five boroughs of New York, Long Island and Westchester. Ben Jeffrey of Broadway's ALADDIN to Perform Benefit Concert for Gateway Center, 6/10

Ben Jeffrey, Broadway star of The Lion King and Aladdin, will perform a one-night-only concert to benefit Gateway Center for Performing Arts on Friday, June 10th at 6:30 pm.  Jeffrey, who is a Guest Artist in GCPA's Summer Master Class Series, will perform family friendly repertoire and be joined onstage by special guests, including performers from the casts of Aladdin KIDS!, GCPA's summer production for Grades K-4th.  The performance will be at the Emerson Theatre at Harris Stowe. Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children (children age 2 and under who can sit on the lap of an adult may attend the concert for free).
