BWW REVIEW: THE COLORED MUSEUM Celebrates and Skewers Black HistoryBWW REVIEW: THE COLORED MUSEUM Celebrates and Skewers Black History
by Jan Nargi - Mar 17, 2015

It feels like it could have been written yesterday, but THE COLORED MUSEUM, now in a rollicking revival at the Huntington Theatre Company in Boston, Mass., was actually first produced in 1986. Written by the estimable Broadway playwright and director George C. Wolfe (Jelly's Last Jam, Angels in America: Millennium Approaches) and directed here with great panache by Tony Award winner Billy Porter (Kinky Boots), this scathing "black black comedy" marches through 300 years of African American history by way of 11 funny but also penetrating living vignettes. by Katricia Lang - Dec 24, 2014

In a sense, SEUSSICAL is formulaic pabulum. But like I formulaically say almost every review (after a eye-catching, misleading characterization of a piece - i.e. pabulum), that doesn't make it bad. It has very simple but charming themes about loyalty, being kind to all people despite difference in appearance, and staying true to yourself. It's no wonder that it's a youth theatre favorite. BWW Reviews: LOVE, LIES & LYRICS: THE WORDS OF LESLEY ROSSBWW Reviews: LOVE, LIES & LYRICS: THE WORDS OF LESLEY ROSS
by Jenny Antill - Apr 21, 2015

Renowned lyricist Lesley Ross is celebrated in SimG Records latest album - Love, Lies & Lyrics. Featuring songs from several shows that Ross has contributed to with different composers, the recording gives us a variety of musical styles to enjoy. It is like putting your iPod on shuffle, not knowing what will come up next! Admittedly I don't tend to do this with the musical theatre recordings I have on my iPod because sometimes stand along numbers do not have the same effect out of context. However I don't really mind in this case as the storytelling within the songs are powerful enough to set the scene for you; credit to Ross' writing. (more...)
