BWW Recap: 'Blood of My Blood' Returns on GAME OF THRONES
by Jessica Naftaly - May 30, 2016

We're over halfway done with this season of Game of Thrones, and last night's episode entitled “Blood of My Blood” should have probably been called “Home” (the title of Episode 2), considering more characters were reconnected with their past, began to discern who they are at the core versus who they are expected to be, as well as some literally returning home. However, we did get our mandatory dragon shot! Finally we found out where Summer's CGI budget went! Subsequently, we did get a lot of general plot development this week! Yay! Things happened! Arya was able to move past her stick training, Sam and Gilly got to their destination, we saw the return of two long gone uncles, and Jaime was forced out of the Kingsguard and into his book location! BWW Review: CABARET at Winspear Opera House
by Kyle Christopher West - May 29, 2016

I can't be the only theatregoer who found the tour of CABARET chilling. During an election year where fear mongering and racial intolerance are sitting center ring, the story of pre-Holocaust Germany seems especially relevant and cautionary. But that doesn't mean the musical, which just arrived at the Winspear Opear House, isn't equally thrilling and heartfelt. (more...)

BWW Review: Singer PAT WHITEMAN and Composer HARRIET SCHOCK Make a Dream Team in the E-Spot Lounge at Vitello's
by Don Grigware - May 23, 2016

On Thursday May 19 consummate singer Pat Whiteman presented An Evening of Pat Whiteman & Grammy nominated songwriter Harriet Schock at the E Spot Lounge at Vitello's in Studio City to a sold-out house of arduous music lovers. Although not as well known as the others, Harriet Schock has been compared to Joni Mitchell and Carly Simon. Her pop songs are that good, for example 'Ain't No Way to Treat a Lady' which gave Helen Reddy a great big hit back in the 70s. Who better to interpret her incisive emotional messages than virtuoso Pat Whiteman? The evening was a divine songfest of original material with a 6-piece band, including Schock at the piano and electronic keyboard, and two backup singers. There were also special guests: Gary Lynn Floyd, who has an uber expressive singing style perfect for Schock's music...and movie composer Misha Segal who co-wrote the gorgeous 'First Time on a Ferris Wheel' with Schock. In 2007, Dunken Sheik and Steven Sater's rock musical SPRING AWAKENING took home eight of the eleven Tony Awards it was nominated for, including the coveted Best Musical award. Although the current local production at Runway Theatre is unlikely to be held to the same standards, the audience reaction to the company's opening night performance was every bit as excited about the show as the audiences in New York.
