La Jolla Playhouse announces a fifth production for its 2013/14 season: the world premiere of The Tallest Tree, a new play with music written and performed by Daniel Beaty (Emergency, Through the Night), directed by Moises Kaufman (I Am My Own Wife, The Laramie Project). A co-production with Kansas City Repertory Theatre, The Tallest Tree will run in The Playhouse's Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre tonight, October 9 - November 3, 2013. Each elder attempts to spread the good news in his own way; Arnold seems to pull scripture out of his a$$ to fit whatever point he is trying to promote. Kevin tries the traditional method but winds up having to pull the actual book out of his a$$ after it was unceremoniously placed there by a terrorist. It's never fun being the butt of a joke. Showtime Greenlights New Documentary from Comedian Tig Notaro

SHOWTIME has greenlit a new documentary project from acclaimed comedian Tig Notaro, tentatively titled Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro. This August, Notaro will travel across the country in order to put on a series of private comedy performances in the homes, backyards, driveways, barns, rooftops and cul-de-sacs of her most loyal fans. These performances will be filmed as part of the documentary. As always, Notaro's nationwide performances will feature special guest appearances from some of her famous and funny friends. Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro is executive produced by Notaro, along with Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver of Left/Right (This American Life, Small Town Security) for SHOWTIME. Following the world premiere co-production at Kansas City Repertory Theatre and La Jolla Playhouse, playwright and performer Daniel Beaty brings The Tallest Tree in the Forest to Arena Stage at the Mead Center for American Theater. Beaty, whose work has been seen at Arena Stage as a playwright with his play Resurrection and as a performer in his award-winning solo play Emergency, channels close to 40 characters in The Tallest Tree in the Forest in a 'tour de force' (San Diego Reader) performance, giving audiences an intimate look at one of the most dynamic and controversial figures in history-artist and activist Paul Robeson. Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (playwright and director for Broadway's 33 Variations, which received its world premiere at Arena Stage in 2007) directs this music-infused new play that features 14 songs and an onstage band.
