SHOWTIME has greenlit a new documentary project from acclaimed comedian Tig Notaro, tentatively titled Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro. This August, Notaro will travel across the country in order to put on a series of private comedy performances in the homes, backyards, driveways, barns, rooftops and cul-de-sacs of her most loyal fans. These performances will be filmed as part of the documentary. As always, Notaro's nationwide performances will feature special guest appearances from some of her famous and funny friends. Knock Knock, It's Tig Notaro is executive produced by Notaro, along with Ken Druckerman and Banks Tarver of Left/Right (This American Life, Small Town Security) for SHOWTIME. Beaty, whose work has been seen at Arena Stage as a playwright with his play Resurrection and as a performer in his award-winning solo play Emergency, channels close to 40 characters in The Tallest Tree in the Forest in a 'tour de force' (San Diego Reader) performance, giving audiences an intimate look at one of the most dynamic and controversial figures in history-artist and activist Paul Robeson. Tony Award nominee Moises Kaufman (playwright and director for Broadway's 33 Variations, which received its world premiere at Arena Stage in 2007) directs this music-infused new play that features 14 songs and an onstage band. Every week a new expert, or 'geek' in a very specific field will teach the audience and improvisers every last detail they know about a piece of pop culture, and the performers will improvise a hilarious and distinctly informed show on the subject. As any professor who's ever told a Knock Knock joke can tell you, laughter makes learning easier. And just like a professor is thrilled about their subject, so are these geeks. (more...)
