Carnegie Hall presents pianist Andras Schiff in two recitals this fall that will conclude The Bach Project, a two-season, multi-city, concentrated focus on the great keyboard works of J.S. Bach by one of the composer's most acclaimed interpreters. The two programs at Carnegie Hall are monumental in scope, beginning with a performance of the complete Partitas on Wednesday, October 30 at 8:00 p.m. and concluding the following week with a concert that pairs Bach's Goldberg Variations with Beethoven's Thirty-three Variations on a Waltz by Diabelli on Tuesday, November 5 at 8:00 p.m. (more...)

Chicago Fringe Festival Executive Director Vinnie Lacey announces the Chicago Fringe Festival 2013, held August 29 - September 8, its first time in the new location of Jefferson Park was a success and the Festival will return in 2014. Attendance was up over the previous two years with 3887 attendees. The Festival had more than 25 sold out performances and the number of Fringe Festival passes was at an all time high. Fringe artists and performers receive 100% of the ticket sales generated by their appearance and in 2013, more than $28,000 was returned to artists. The Chicago Fringe Festival is a member of the Fringe Festival movement and is one of many festivals held throughout the world. The Chicago Fringe Festival unites daring theatergoers with emerging and boundary-pushing local, national and international performing artists while seeking to engage nontraditional audiences through a commitment to low ticket prices and outreach into artistically underserved communities. For more than 20 years, Mr. Schweitzer has held numerous senior executive positions in the medical device industry. For the past 10 years he was with Medtronic Inc., which he joined in 2004 as Vice President Cardiac Surgery. He was promoted to Medtronic's global leadership team for the company's Neuromodulation division in 2008 and, in addition to this role, assumed responsibility as Vice President and International General Manager in 2009. In this capacity he directly oversaw all operations of the Neuromodulation division outside the U.S. Under his leadership the business enjoyed double-digit growth and accomplished several technological and clinical milestones in its Deep Brain Stimulation, Spinal Cord Stimulation and Targeted Drug Delivery franchises. Prior to Medtronic, Schweitzer was Vice President with Boston Scientific Corp. He recently assumed the role of President and CEO at Transform Medical LLC. Schweitzer earned his MBA from INSEAD; his JD degree from the University of Vienna; and his master's degree in Business Informatics From Vienna University of Economic Sciences and Business Administration. The Jewish Museum's popular SummerNights program returns, with live music in a concert setting on three Thursdays in June and July. This cosmopolitan concert series presents critically acclaimed musicians offering innovative interpretations of music from all over the world. Hazmat Modine kicks off SummerNights on June 27, with high-energy blues, swing, and world-infused jazz. Other scheduled performers include Howard Fishman and his Band, with an exuberant blend of jazz, soul, country, blues, gospel and experimental music; and the all women's klezmer sextet, Isle of Klezbos, playing imaginative versions of eclectic Eastern European-rooted Jewish folk music, Yiddish swing and tango. Each event also features an open bar with beer and wine. The Jewish Museum is located at Fifth Avenue at 92nd Street, Manhattan. (more...)

The new disc, Live from Brooklyn - recorded in concert last year at Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts, with the addition of two bonus studio numbers - will be available from Rhythm Media Records on Tuesday, April 8 as well as at the Joe's Pub performance. Formed in 1998, the group approaches their music with a canny mix of irreverence and respect. Live from Brooklyn features the group's signature diverse blend of rambunctious folk dances, exciting Yiddish swing, entrancing retro tango, klezmerengue, re-grooved standards, and genre-defying originals. Singer Karyn Levitt, with pianist Eric Ostling, will perform Eric Bentley's Brecht-Eisler Song Book, a unique evening that features the songs of Austrian composer Hanns Eisler (1898-1962), set to poetry by Bertolt Brecht and other noted writers, in English versions by Eric Bentley, Monday February 3 at 7:30 PM at the Leonard Nimoy Thalia/Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway (entrance on 95th Street). Eric Bentley, now 97 years old, is the first translator into English of Brecht's plays and poems, introducing Brecht's work to American stages in the 1940's and 50's. Bentley has now unlocked Hanns Eisler's starkly beautiful songs, many set to poems by Brecht, to be performed by soprano Karyn Levitt, with whom he has worked closely since 2011. (more...)

HOUSTON (December 19, 2013) – Music Director Designate Andrés Orozco-Estrada returns to the Houston Symphony during its Centennial Season on January 3, 4 and 5 to conduct Mozart's Symphony No. 41, Jupiter, the final and most complex symphony of the composer's prolific career. Though there are lighthearted moments, the piece has an inherently serious quality and is known for its grandeur and heightened energy. The program opens with Haydn's equally exciting Symphony No. 59, Fire.
