The flyers on the seats at Barrington Stage Company's St Germain Stage were from a 1995 college appearance by William Kunstler, They said in bold letters 'BOYCOTT - Kunstler is a sellout and a hypocrite His defense of Traiters; Terrorists; and Rapists is an insult to the causes for what which he once stood.' Well, these flyers were correct about Jeff McCarthy in Kunstler being a 'sell out' (audience-wise) at Barrington Stage with his brilliant portrayal of the famed defense lawyer. (more...)

Brooke and Chad Are¬Ö JUST AS GAY AS YOU

Cabaret Artists Chad M. Ryan and Brooke M. Haney's first collaborative endeavor, Brooke and Chad Are… Just as Gay as You. (A Queer Cabaret of Chaos and Clarity), premieres this year during Pride Week on Tuesday, June 20th at 6:30 pm at the Duplex. Created by Haney and Ryan from their combined personal "GAY" experiences, the show explores the themes of queerness and identity and the unlikely friendship between a Gay man and a Queer woman, all under their shared love of music and storytelling. Filled with chaotic  humour, truth telling vulnerability and occasional crisp clarity, the evening is sure to be a 'gay ol time.'  The duo has also partnered with Shining Hope for Communities to raise money and build awareness for Margaret's Safe Place, a project of Shining Hope. To that end, a portion of the proceeds from every ticket will go to support Shining Hope. (more...)

Come hear the music play! Palm Beach Dramaworks is pleased to announce the launching of its first-ever cabaret series, which will take place in the Perlberg Studio Theatre. The premiere event, which runs from June 9 - June 11, features local favorite Laura Hodos performing her acclaimed show, Julie and Mary and Ethel and Babs!, a program of songs associated with musical theatre legends Julie Andrews, Mary Martin, Ethel Merman, and Barbra Streisand. Artistic Director Mark Yonally and Chicago Tap Theatre (CTT) are proud to present Changes, a science fiction tap dance story show set to all-new arrangements of the music of David Bowie, directed by Harrison McEldowney, based on an original show created by Chicago Tap Theatre, choreography by Yonally with musical arrangements and direction by Kurt Schweitz, June 30 - July 16, at Stage 773, 1225 W. A special one-night-only edition of Concert for America: Stand Up, Sing Out! will be presented this summer at The 5th Avenue Theatre on Thursday, July 6 at 7:00 PM. A star-studded concert of songs, comedy and commentary, the Seattle edition of Concert for America will feature world class performers including Tony Award-winner Roger Bart (You're a Good Man Charlie Brown), Broadway star Sierra Boggess (The Little Mermaid) and Tony nominee and longtime 5th Avenue Theatre favorite Kerry Butler, who originated the role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray at The 5th and on Broadway. Seattle's critically acclaimed Spectrum Dance Theater, Naomi Morgan, who starred as Mimi in Rent at The 5th and Caety Sagoian (Jasper in Deadland at The 5th) will also perform. Carnegie Hall's Lullaby Project Reaches Mothers Through Songwriting Workshops Across the Country

On Friday, June 2 at 2:00 p.m., mothers, family members, musicians, and partners from New York City and across the country will gather to celebrate original songs created as part of Carnegie Hall's Lullaby Project, a program which pairs pregnant women and new mothers with professional artists to write personal lullabies for their babies. In New York City, the project reaches mothers in hospitals, homeless shelters, foster care centers, and at Rikers Island Correctional Facility. Extending across the country, Lullaby Project partner organizations work with families in over fifteen communities. The Lullaby Project supports maternal health, aids child development, and strengthens the bond between parent and child. The year-end concert on June 2, which will feature performances by mothers and artists locally as well as from partner sites across the nation, will be made available to a wider audience through a livestream on facebook.com/CarnegieHall.
