This annual curated performance series features new work by women choreographers for pointe. For this, its fifth anniversary season, 7 women choreographers have been paired with 7 female visual artists to collaborate and create both a new physical and visual work by each--investigating the process of creation, inspiration and development. Breaking! Isaac Mizrahi Joins Brooklyn Library to Present 'Where the Wild Things Are' Library Card, 3/28

On Tuesday, March 28, Brooklyn Public Library will debut a new, limited-edition library card featuring artwork from the classic picture book Where the Wild Things Are by Brooklynite Maurice Sendak. Students from PS 118, the Maurice Sendak Community School will be the first to receive the new card at a brief press event that will feature a fun, interactive reading with Wild Rumpus dancing and an appearance by Isaac Mizrahi. In addition to being the default issued to children, the Wild Things cards will be available for free to any patrons (regardless of age) who request to trade in their traditional blue cards, while supplies last.  American Opera Projects and Nashville Opera are excited to announce the New York premiere of the comic opera triptych Three Way, a playful three-act performance that explores the future of love, sex, and need with a clever balance of humor and drama. Each aptly named act (The Companion, Safe Word, and Masquerade) introduces the audience to a collision of contemporary characters who meet at the intersection of power and desire, revealing true longings of the human heart. The complexity of each character and situation is accentuated by the beguiling and melodic score composed by Robert Paterson, and a witty libretto by David Cote. Three Way is directed by John Hoomes (CEO & Artistic Director, Nashville Opera) conducted by Dean Williamson, and features Eliza Bonet, Melisa Bonetti, Samuel Levine, Wes Mason, Danielle Pastin, Courtney Ruckman, Jordan Rutter, and Matthew Treviño alongside a chamber ensemble of 12 (American Modern Ensemble). Three Way runs June 15 - June 18 at BAM Fisher (Fishman Space). Composer Robert Sirota Continues 'Bridging the Gap' Series at National Sawdust

Composer Robert Sirota is curating a new season-long series at National Sawdust (80 N 6th St). Titled Bridging the Gap, the series features concerts of chamber, choral, and solo works which Sirota has crafted to explore the student/teacher, mentor/mentee relationships between generations of composers. The concerts, all held on Sundays, include performances of works by both younger composers and the teachers who have influenced their development. The New York Philharmonic Very Young People's Concerts (VYPCs), for children ages 3 to 6, will conclude its 12th season Sunday, April 30, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. and Monday, May 1 at 10:30 a.m. at Merkin Concert Hall, 129 West 67th Street. The program, titled “Woodwinds,” is the final of three installments in Philharmonic Families, the season's theme that presents an overview of the entire orchestra. The “Woodwinds” program will feature Philharmonic musicians performing selections from Rossini's La gazza ladra Overture and Ravel's Le Tombeau de Couperin as well as “This Violist Went Wandering,” set to the tune of “Once an Austrian Went Yodeling.” Hosted again by Philharmonic Associate Principal Viola Rebecca Young, the program will feature Philharmonic flutist Yoobin Son, Associate Principal Oboe Sherry Sylar, Acting Associate Principal Clarinet Pascual Martínez Forteza, guest bassoonist Harrison Miller, and horn player R. Allen Spanjer. Production designer Doug Fitch — with whom the Philharmonic has collaborated on several acclaimed staged productions, and who began his involvements in Philharmonic VYPCs in January 2017 — created artwork for the concert, which also features Philippe the Penguin, a character created for the series. The New York Choral Society (NYCHORAL) under the direction of its Music Director David Hayes will give the New York Premiere of celebrated Scottish composer James MacMillan's St. Luke Passion. NYCHORAL will be joined by organist Jason Roberts as well as the remarkable Brooklyn Youth Chorus under Artistic Director Dianne Berkun Menaker. James MacMillan's St. Luke Passion, written in 2013, is the second of four planned works, each based on one of the Gospels which aim to approach the differing passion accounts from contrasting stylistic per-spectives. BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL is a jukebox musical that tells the story of the early life and career of Carole King with a book by Douglas McGrath, using songs that she wrote, often together with Gerry Goffin, and other contemporary songs by Barry Mann, Cynthia Weil, Phil Spector and others. The original production received its world premiere in San Francisco in October of 2013, and made its Broadway debut at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre in January 2014.
