Mix a classic spy novel with the genius of Alfred Hitchcock, add a dash of Monty Python and you have The 39 Steps. With a history spanning over 100 years, John Buchan’s 1915 novel was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock which then went on to become a stage play in 1996, adapted again in 2005 by Patrick Barlow to become the an international smash.

From the moment the lights dim to the opening chords of the Prologue, the audience knew they were in for a treat. A haunting and stirring rendition of The Old Red Hills of Home, led by young actor Elijah Zurek as the Young Soldier, will have you in a chokehold from the very start.

The track, which was originally released on the critically acclaimed album Phantom Blues, features vocals from Taj and GRAMMY nominated guitarist and vocalist Trey Hensley who breathe new life into this classic country soul Taj fan favorite. The song also became a runaway streaming hit, with millions of streams across platforms for Taj.

Two contemporary compositions provided the framework for the haunting, ebullient Symphony No. 5 in E-flat major, Op. 82 by iconic Finnish composer Jean Sibelius in a recent program, performed live in Benaroya Hall on Nov. 16, 2023, and streamed on the innovative Seattle Symphony+ service. Helmed by Finnish conductor Dalia Stasevska, who debuted with the orchestra in 2022, the program was intriguing and captivating.

Violinist Yevgeny Kutik ––  known for his “dark-hued tone and razor-sharp technique” (The New York Times) — will make his Maverick Concerts debut as part of Maverick Concerts' Annual Chamber Orchestra Concert, on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 6pm.
