Theatre of Europe Launches its New Season of Site-Specific Premieres, Including A DOLL'S HOUSE

Theatre of Europe and Chelsea Theatre were granted Arts Council England funding to pilot a year of adventurous work from the continent in repertory. The Season opens with Danish company Fix&Foxy staging Ibsen's A Doll's House in different people's homes around London, followed by an audio tour by German/Swiss company Rimini Protokoll (Kaegi/Karrenbauer) through the streets of the city. Producer Scott Rudin today announced that Lucas Hnath's new play, A Doll's House, Part 2, will come to Broadway next spring in a production directed by Tony Award®-winner Sam Gold. A wildly inventive new American play that picks up after Henrik Ibsen's most cherished work concludes, A Doll's House, Part 2 will boast an all-star cast that features three-time Emmy Award-winner and three-time Tony Award®-nominee Laurie Metcalf, Academy Award-winner Chris Cooper, Tony Award®-winner Jayne Houdyshelland two-time Tony Award®-nominee Condola Rashad. Beginning preview performances at Broadway's John Golden Theatre (252 West 45th Street) on Saturday, April 1, 2017, this 16-week engagement will officially open on Thursday, April 27. (more...)

The full cast for Print Room at the Coronet's The Tempest is today announced. Directed by Simon Usher, who garnered critical acclaim for his Hamlet at Belgrade Coventry and his Timon of Athens, Pericles and The Winter's Tale at Leicester Haymarket, this is the first staging of Shakespeare by the Notting Hill Gate venue. Henrik Ibsen's lesser-known drama 'Ghosts' should be just as prolific as 'A Doll's House.' This 19th-century societal criticism is one to check off your classical theater bucket list, and Richard Eyre's masterful adaptation at ArtsWest is impressively close to the original. On top of casting two theatrical powerhouses--Suzanna Bouchard and Noah Racey--ArtsWest's current production is one that would make Ibsen himself stand and applaud. Ingmar Bergman's NORA Begins This Weekend at Cherry Lane Theatre

Ingmar Bergman's NORA -- an adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's classic drama A Doll's House -- will be given its English-language New York debut Off-Broadway this fall when Austin Pendleton directs the production at Cherry Lane Theatre (38 Commerce St.), with previews set to begin November 14 prior to an official press opening November 22. The five-week production runs through December 12. NORA is produced by Cherry Lane Theatre in association with La Femme Theatre Productions.  (more...)

Huntington Theatre Company, the 2013 recipient of the Regional Theatre Tony Award and Boston magazine's Best Theatre of 2013 and 2014, announces that playwright Bryony Lavery's acclaimed adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's A Doll's House will complete its 2016-2017 Season. The adaptation of this iconic classic will be directed by Melia Bensussen (Awake and Sing!, Luck of the Irish), and the play joins the previously announced six titles in the 2016-2017 Season. Henrik Ibsen's all-time classic play, A Doll's House, adapted and directed by one of South Africa's  most exciting young directors, Standard Bank Young Artist winner Christiaan Olwagen, comes to the Baxter Theatre stage for a short season. The 2016-17 season kicks off this fall with a rare revival of Maxwell Anderson's 1930s drama WINTERSET, directed by Ensemble Member Jonathan Berry (Pocatello, Balm in Gilead). The season continues next spring with the world premiere of IN TO AMERICA, a 400-year journey through the immigrant experience written by Artistic Director Bill Massolia (Letters Home) and directed by Dorothy Milne.
