BroadwayWorld talks to celebrated Bay Area playwright/composer Min Kahng about his rollicking new show 'Happy Pleasant Valley: A Senior Sex Scandal Murder Mystery Musical,' which is part of TheatreWorks Silicon Valley's 20th Anniversary New Works Festival at the Lucie Stern Theatre in Palo Alto August 11th to 20th.

Schall and Schmidt are a lovely duo providing a vintage feel of a 1940’s supper club. Wrapping his vocals with his pleasing tenor and a deep resonant lower register, Schall takes on standards of old and what he calls the new standards of the 1970s Baby Boomers. His opening set is “S Wonderful” as he takes on some of the most popular standards of old including “I Can’t Give You Anything but Love, Baby,” and “Almost Like being in Love.” The diners are also treated to his unique takes on Lerner and Loewe’s “Wouldn’t it be Loverly,” and “On the Street Where You Live” from MY FAIR LADY. His second set included some of the biggest hits of the late 1960’s and 1970s with “Up on the Roof,” “New York State of Mind,” “Both Sides Now,” and more. Schmidt accompanies him splendidly on piano and helps return romance to dining in an intimate setting where you come for a leisurely dinner and to be entertained by a skilled musician accompanying an outstanding vocalist.

Broadway says goodbye to three productions. Peter Pan Goes Wrong takes its final bow at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre following 38 previews and 111 regular performances; Camelot will conclude its run at the Vivian Beaumont Theatre following 38 previews and 116 regular performances; Life of Pi wraps up at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theatre following 22 previews and 133 regular performances.

Lincoln Center Theater has announced that its acclaimed new version of Lerner & Loewe’s CAMELOT will end its run at the Vivian Beaumont Theater on Sunday, July 23, at which point it will have played a total of 153 performances (38 previews and 115 regular performances).

The Muny’s production of BEAUTIFUL is a nostalgic delight. The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts has announced its 2023–2024 Theater season, featuring thrilling Broadway hits and the fifth season of its critically-acclaimed, star-studded Broadway Center Stage series.

The Charleston Gaillard Center announced its largest season ever for the 2023–2024 programming year with more than 40 shows spanning dance, music, theater, comedy, arts festivals, and family programming from leading local, national, and international artists and organizations.
