New Yiddish Rep recreates the bawdy, boisterous and often backbiting atmosphere of a Yiddish music hall on the Lower East Side a century ago with the first of several planned 'Seltzer Nights' beginning Saturday March 21 at 7pm. The launch of the 'Seltzer Nights' project, which incubates at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, for four Saturdays through the spring, culminates in a daring new original American musical in English and Yiddish (the premiere of which will be announced at a later date). AND THEN THERE WERE NONE is not only Dame Agatha Christie's best-selling novel, but the world's best-selling mystery. Over 100 million copies of the book have been sold to date in 50 different languages. The success of her novel, published in 1939, led to AND THEN THERE WERE NONE becoming her most adapted work. The stage adaptation came in 1943 with a world premiere at the Wimbledon Theatre in London. In November of that same year the production transferred to the West End.
