Soho Rep presents the world premiere of multidisciplinary theater-maker, musician, and composer Jillian Walker's The Whitney Album. Walker's ritual performance flows between incantation, love lecture, scene, and song as it considers the labor of performance itself and honors the legacy of Whitney Houston and so many other Black women beloved, and consumed, for their art.

The Pulitzer Prize Board has just announced that English, by Sanaz Toossi has won the 2023 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. Other finalists included: On Sugarland by Aleshea Harris and The Far Country by Lloyd Suh.

NYU Skirball will present the NYC premiere of Tao of Glass, a semi-autobiographical play written and performed by Phelim McDermott with music by Philip Glass, running March 30 – April 8, 2023 at NYU Skirball. Tao of Glass is co-presented with the U.K.'s Improbable theatre company and the Manchester International Festival.

Next Chapter Podcasts and Fiasco Theater have teamed up for a new Play on Podcasts production of Measure for Measure, in modern verse translation by Aditi Brennan Kapil. The series will be released in weekly installments, which began on October 28, and will conclude on December 9.

Playwright Danny Robins’ 2:22 – A Ghost Story will have its U.S. premiere November 4, 2022 (with previews starting October 29th) at the Center Theater Group’s Ahmanson. Matthew Dunster directs the cast of four: Constance Wu, Anna Camp, Adam Rothenberg, and Finn Wittrock.  I persuaded  Finn to chat about 2:22, as well as reminisce on some of his career highlights.

The joyful frolics of MONTY PYTHON’S SPAMALOT are on stage in full armor at Arizona Broadway Theatre through November 5th.

It surprised the industry this week when playwright David Adjmi went public about his own tale of developing an Oscar Levant play with Sean Hayes – and not the one that will be seen on Broadway this spring. World-renown performance artists Acrobuffos will be making their Southern California debut at The Broad Stage with their show Air Play beginning July 21, 2022. The husband-and-wife team of Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone have travelled the world performing their wordless, highly visual shows. Seth and Christina both took some time from their “intense residency building a new show” to speak a few words for my queries.

Latino Theatre Company presents Kulunka Teatro’s André & Dorine beginning June 8, 2022 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Co-founding member of Kulunka Teatro Iñaki Rikarte directs the silent cast of Edu Cárcamo, El José Dault and Garbiñe Insausti portraying over fifteen different characters, telling the story with only masks, gesture and movement. I had the opportunity to get some behind-the-scenes info about André & Dorine and Kulunnka Teatro from Iñaki.
