Kitsap Forest Theater is celebrating its 100th anniversary this season. As the summer winds down, I took this opportunity to talk with a few of the actors in their summer show, Seussical. A new survey of acclaimed artist Charles Gaines opens at the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (ICA Miami) this November, tracing the evolution of the second half of his influential practice. Charles Gaines: 1992–2023 brings together for the first time more than 65 works from 1992 to the present day including two monumental works, one of which the artist is recreating for the first time in nearly two decades. Curated by Gean Moreno, ICA Miami's Director of the Knight Foundation Art + Research Center, the exhibition is on view at ICA Miami from November 16, 2023, to April 30, 2024.

State Theatre New Jersey presents Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo on Sunday, April 16 at 7:30pm. The opening act is Charlie Farren, best known as the lead singer of The Joe Perry Project.

Director Geovonday Jones vision and collaboration with his actors and technical crew deliver a superb production of SKELETON CREW. In addition to the exceptionally directed performances by the actors, Jones empowers his technical teams and allows their creativity to raise the production value to the highest standard. Lamar Harris’ sound design is nuanced, detailed and spectacular. The sound effects (the punching of the time clock, the ambient factory noise when the breakroom door opens, the rattle of the employee lockers) adds to the intimacy and shrinks the theatre, placing the audience directly in the breakroom. The breakroom set and three-dimensional factory projection effects once again illustrate why Margery and Peter Spack are among the best scenic and video designers working in St. Louis Theatre. Their set detail provides a conscious palate for Coda Boyce’s purposeful prop choices. Jayson Lawshee’s lighting design, Marisa Perry’s costume design and the work of the technical staff Christian Kitchens, Kristen Gray and De’Janna Hand all add to the exceptional quality of this production.

Birdland Jazz Club and Birdland Theater have released jazz programming from March 28 through April 9.

The clues are both interwoven in the dialogue and hidden in plain view. Connecting the dots has never been more fun. California Shakespeare Theater’s Board of Directors announced that Managing Director Sarah Williams will depart the Bay Area non-profit theater organization following three years at the helm. Veteran arts leader, actor, and advocate Clive Worsley has been named to the newly created position of Executive Director.

Changes are afoot at The Play That Goes Wrong, which welcomes three new cast members to the production now playing at New World Stages starting tonight. Adam Petherbridge will take over the role of Max, reprising the role he played on the national tour, Trevor Braun joins as Dennis, and Clyde Voce makes his Off-Broadway debut as Jonathan.
