UW Drama professor Valerie Curtis-Newton, who was just named one of the 13 most influential Seattleites of the past decade by the Seattle Times, will direct Julie Kramer's 2012 adaptation of Rona Jaffe's 1958 novel, The Best of Everything.

Beth Morrison Projects (BMP) and Trinity Church Wall Street (Trinity), together with PROTOTYPE: Opera|Theatre|Now, are pleased to announce a multiyear partnership in which BMP and Trinity will commission and produce five cutting-edge new opera-theater works for premiere at the PROTOTYPE Festival over three seasons (2021a?"2023). These comprise a new work by the Pulitzer Prize-winning composer-director team Du Yun and Michael McQuilken; two new works by librettist Royce Vavrek, paired with Mary Kouyoumdjian and Julian Wachner, respectively; a work by composer Ted Hearne with text by Halim Flowers and rap from Momolu Stewart; and a work by Paola Prestini with poet Brenda Shaughnessy.

Gustavo Dudamel will return to the New York Philharmonic after ten years to conduct two weeks of programs. In the first week, Mr. Dudamel will conduct the New York Premiere of Esteban Benzecry's Piano Concerto, Universos infinitos, with Sergio Tiempo in his Philharmonic debut; Ives's The Unanswered Question; and Dvořák's Symphony No. 9, From the New World, Wednesday, January 15, 2020, at 7:30 p.m.; Thursday, January 16 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 17 at 11:00 a.m.; Saturday, January 18 at 8:00 p.m.; and Tuesday, January 21 at 7:30 p.m. In the second week, he will conduct Schubert's Symphony No. 4, Tragic, and Mahler's Das Lied von der Erde, with mezzo-soprano Michelle DeYoung and tenor Simon O'Neill, Thursday, January 23 at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, January 24 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, January 25 at 8:00 p.m.

3 tapestry panels, of multi-color and tribal patterns adorn the backdrop of a minimalized set surrounding the story of two women of color in their 30's. The women subliminally named SBF 1 and SBF 2 enter the space and like a conversation over Friday night cocktails with friends the show commences. A 90 minute riff on Modern Pop culture references touches on several decades in the young women's lives. The 19 century Modern woman in the 1970's, 80's, and 90's are described through comedic and sometimes endearing vignettes. Fluid Expressions a newer Theatrical Company in the Tampa Bay area who's missions is, a?oeArt for the conscious mind,a?? chose Lisa B. Thompson's script for their season opener, and through solid performances by the two women, the audience enjoyed their evening.

It's not just a concert it is an art, Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel that is. Step back into time as a young-looking Simon and Garfunkel took the stage at the Kauffman Center for Performing Arts in Kansas City on Tuesday, October 22 for the SIMON AND GARFUNKEL STORY. Two very talented actors, George Clements as Simon and Andrew Wade as Garfunkel, portrayed the famed folk/rock duo who have sold over 100 million albums since making their appearance in 1965.

The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa's Department of Theatre and Dance and Kennedy Theatre will be hosting a celebration of the life and career of Terence a?oeTerrya?? Knapp on Saturday, October 19, 2019. Doors will open at 5:00pm, participants will be welcome to visit with one another on the upper lanai; the formal Celebration will begin at 5:30pm in the Kennedy Theatre auditorium. Much has been documented about the pioneering music that came out of the United States in the 1960s, amidst the social and political strife of the era. Certainly, the times were changing, but the music scene wasn't just about the Summer of Love, or festivals like Woodstock or Monterey Pop. There was another movement happening in New York, in the heart of “El Barrio.” As younger generations of Latinos and Latinas were growing up, they, too, were rebelling against the establishment—whether that meant questioning their place in American society, experimenting with drugs, or breaking away from the traditions of their parents. As cultural barriers in the city loosened, and pop culture reigned, young Latin American musicians were exposed to more influences than ever before. They began combining soul, R&B,Afro-Cuban dance rhythms, and English lyrics to make a sound all their own—a craze which became known as boogaloo. Simultaneously, the rising drug culture among '60s youth was becoming a heavy influence across all genres, and Latin music was no exception. References to LSD, marijuana and other trappings of psychedelia—whether blatant or subtle—can be heard in many of the Latin soul songs of the era.

It tells the story from their humble beginnings as Tom & Jerry to their incredible success as one of the best-selling music groups of the '60s to their dramatic split in 1970. It culminates with the famous a?oeThe Concert in Central Parka?? reunion in 1981 with more than half a million fans in attendance.

Cortland Repertory Theatre takes audiences on a trip to the Greek Islands, and back to 1970's music, with their next high-energy summer production, the hit musical "Mamma Mia"! Featuring the extremely popular music by the iconic pop group ABBA, the music and lyrics for this show are written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, with some songs with Stig Anderson, and the book is written by Catherine Johnson.

The French Institute Alliance Fran aise (FIAF) honors the great French composer Michel Legrand, who died in January this year, with a special Cin Salon series devoted to his life and work. Curated by one of his longtime collaborators and greatest interpreters, singer and actress Melissa Errico, Summer of Michel Legrand brings together seven of his films from his best known triumphs such as The Umbrellas of Cherbourg and The Young Girls of Rochefort to lesser known gems such as the enchanting fairy-tale musical Donkey Skin. Screenings take place on Tuesdays in July at 4pm and 7:30pm in FIAF's Florence Gould Hall.

Technically any venue with 500 seats or more, located along Broadway in New York City's Theatre District is a Broadway theatre, and the art that is produced in these special places is widely considered the highest form of theatrical entertainment in the world. Today, forty-one theatres are technically Broadway houses, each with their own rich history. Below, we're giving you the scoop on the life of every one of them!

Blessed with what the New York Times described as a "beautiful countertenor," singer ART GARFUNKEL has made an indelible mark on the music world as both a solo artist and half of the unrivaled Simon & Garfunkel. The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer will take the stage at the State Theatre on Wednesday, July 24th at 8:00 PM.

Back by popular demand, singer, songwriter and activist Noel Paul Stookey, a four-time Grammy Award-winner, returns to his "home theatre" for two concerts, Sunday, April 28 at 7:00 p.m. and Monday, April 29 at 7:00 p.m. (just added). Noel Paul Stookey of Peter, Paul and Mary in Concert.

March 23, 2019 Based in New York, Ballet Hispanico is not just a Spanish-oriented or Flamenco Dance Company.  It covers many disciplined forms of dance, fusing them together and is both meticulous and marvelous at doing it.  Founded in 1970, they are an established and recognized dance entity.  They are recognized internationally for their diverse repertoire, utilizing strong ballet and contemporary influences along with Latin and Flamenco styles. All the company members are well-trained and seasoned dancers and performers who's every move be it solo or as a unit is perfectly placed and technically correct. There is also a strength and passion to their movements that gives that extra depth and texture which is transmitted to the viewers.  So that they are not just dancing the steps, or going through the motions, they are feeling the movements and intention from within.  

In 1970, John-Michael Tebelak's master's thesis, Godspell, was first performed at Carnegie Mellon. Then in 1971, after a run at La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club, Stephen Schwartz was hired to re-score the show before being produced off-Broadway. Godspell, which is primarily based on parables from the Gospel of Matthew (with a few from the Gospel of Luke and one from John), has had several revivals and numerous tours. Audiences can enjoy a unique interpretation of Godspell at Prima opening April 5th. To find out more about this upcoming production, I spoke with director J. The group that gave Toronto the original Gilbert and Sullivan inspired operettas Lear Incorporated and Chelsea Moore Castle as well as adapted and modernized G&S Classics to create The Starship Pinafore, The Western Mikado and The Biker Pirates of Penzance will take The Gondoliers wonderful tunes and social commentary into the 1970's in a lively adaptation.

The Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts presents The Tetzlaff Trio performing Schumann's consummate Trio No. 1 in D minor, Op. 63, paired with Dvo k's remarkable masterpiece Trio No. 3 in F minor, Op. 65, on Friday, April 26, 2019, 7:30 pm, at The Wallis' Bram Goldsmith Theater. The trio, featuring siblings Christian Tetzlaff, violin, and Tanja Tetzlaff, cello, and Lars Vogt, piano, are touring North America for the first time in three years. They bring polish and passion to every performance, according to the New York Times. A free pre-concert Prelude at 6:30 pm, which includes a complimentary glass of wine provided by The Henry Wine Group, features Classical KUSC's Brian Lauritzen in conversation about the evening's program with the artists. This concert is made possible with generous support from Wendy and Ken Ruby.

Japan Society proudly presents Cross Transit, a collaborative multimedia dance work by acclaimed Japanese choreographer/dancer Akiko Kitamura, with video, photos and narration by Cambodian visual artist Kim Hak. Cross Transit arrives at Japan Society (333 East 47th Street) for two performances only: Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23 at 7:30pm, as part of a North American tour, produced and organized by Japan Society, that includes stops at Towson University (North American Premiere; March 15; Asian Arts & Culture Center / Stephen Halls Theatre) and The Kennedy Center (March 19).
