BWW Review: MAP Theatre's THE ART OF BAD MEN – Touching but a Bit UnfocusedBWW Review: MAP Theatre's THE ART OF BAD MEN – Touching but a Bit Unfocused
by Jay Irwin - Sep 28, 2015

World War II soldiers trying to survive in a POW camp, we've seen this story many times before. But in Vincent Delaney's "The Art of Bad Men", currently being offered from MAP Theatre, we see a different side of the POW experience, from the point of view of the German soldiers being held in America. by Carrie Dunn - Sep 24, 2015

Harvey Fierstein's Casa Valentina has been critically acclaimed; in a cross-dressing colony a group of men leave their families, friends and city jobs behind to safely inhabit their female alter egos and release their inner woman. However, when given the choice to share their secret lives with the world, the group have to decide whether the freedom gained by the openness is worth the personal risk. Based on real-life events, this delightfully insightful and hilariously entertaining piece gives us a glimpse in to the life of these 'self-made women' as they search for acceptance and happiness in a high heel. by Peter Napolitano - Oct 5, 2015

This week, Mark Nadler made his solo television debut on WNET (New York/13) and WLIW (Long Island/21) in the latest installment of the new Public Television series 66th & Broadway (photo below). My friends, in the contemporary cabaret world, this is a BIG DEAL. Let's face it: When 100 people show up to a show on the same night it is an event, so the possibility of thousands (or--dare we dream--millions) of people watching Mr. Nadler perform in the comfort of their homes is beyond exciting. It is Cabaret Nirvana, Shangri-La, and Xanadu combined, the kind of exposure a cabaret artist dreams about but rarely receives. (more...)

BWW Review: Ho!, What a Show!BWW Review: Ho!, What a Show!
by Kristen Morale - Aug 22, 2015

Directed by Mary O'Brady, who really did a splendid job with this production, Neil Simon's Biloxi Blues is a tour-de-force of the lives of complete strangers, brought together for basic training and all to late realizing that their perception of what awaits them in the Army was rather askew. O'Brady wrote something beautiful about the basic concept of wartime, but the implications found in this statement are truly astounding and give a firm basis as to what Simon's show is truly about. She states "Ordinary people were asked to do extraordinary things…They were asked to save the world [and] they did." It is so ironic how war is indicative of death, destruction and all that people don't necessarily wish to think of, but the amount of personal growth that occurs when someone delves into the lives of those involved is truly astounding and honestly, quite riveting (more...)

by BWW News Desk - Aug 11, 2015

On January 18, 2011, twelve inmates, housed inside of one of Georgia's most violent prisons, signed a peace pledge. The reasons for signing varied. Some signed to honor the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr., one of the world's most infamous non-violent activists. Some signed as a challenge for themselves, for men who had been written off and cast away by the system. Men who were being held, literally, on the wrong side of the tracks. (more...)
