The significant and exemplary gifts were received from longtime Symphony supporters Catherine and James Emmi and Elizabeth and John Stahr. The Principal Second Violin Chair has been endowed by the Stahrs, while the Emmis, who have been subscribers and donors of the Symphony since 1987, endowed the orchestra's Principal Cello Chair, held for the past 22 years by Timothy Landauer. Landauer's chair is the second chair endowed by the Emmis, who have also underwritten Symphony musician Robert Becker's Principal Viola Chair with a generous gift in 2001. BWW Recap: Joel & Julia (and Hank & Sarah) Take a BIG Step Forward on PARENTHOODBWW Recap: Joel & Julia (and Hank & Sarah) Take a BIG Step Forward on PARENTHOOD
by Matt Smith - Nov 21, 2014

On this week's PARENTHOOD: Dylan cannot be partners with Max, but Max continues to pester her. Presumably because of his Asperger's, he doesn't understand when to let go. It's really upsetting when you think about it… and he can't do anything about it (something Dylan notes later on in the episode). Poor Max. :-(. It doesn't get any better when he's accused of “harassing” Dylan — and her parents come in and blast Adam and Kristina in front of the entire parent body. This whole plot line is a continuation of the brilliant acting we saw from Max Burkholder last week — he continues to kill it here, especially in the first scene — and when he comes to terms with the fact that he, in fact, doesn't understand all social cues and needs work, despite his Asperger's. Really great character growth and much deserved considering where we first started with him (like, way back in Season 1). (Bonus points for Kristina and Adam's incredibly parenthood pep talk! I mean, who doesn't want to be a Braverman?!) (more...)

BWW Review: Rollins' OUR TOWN is Perfect Blend of Classic Theatrical MagicBWW Review: Rollins' OUR TOWN is Perfect Blend of Classic Theatrical Magic
by Matt Tamanini - Nov 20, 2014

One of the most magical places that I have ever been is Grover's Corners, New Hampshire. It's not a fancy place, just a simple town in which people go about their business, but are always willing to stop and chat about the weather. Grover's Corners is the epitome of a way of life that has long since ceased to exist, if it ever actually did in the first place. However, despite its quantness and surface simplicity, every time I go back to visit, I find more and more depth in the town than I ever remembered being there before. Perhaps this is a simple byproduct of my own aging, but each time I stop by Grover's Corners, I fall more and more in love with this mythical, magical town. (more...)
