Spark Movement Collective Presents 1984

Dance company Spark Movement Collective is updating another classic for today's times with 1984, a debut production based on the novel by George Orwell. Spark dancers bring this dystopian novel to life through movement choreographed by Artistic Director Chelsea Koenig and Assistant Artistic Director Matt Dittes in collaboration with the dancers. Featuring a transporting original score by composer Justin Reardon, 1984 explores the nature of truth and forbidden love in a world of fear. Custom projections enhance the world-building as protagonist Winston battles the psychological manipulation and physical threats of a totalitarian regime. Audiences will encounter a world of ideas as chilling as they are timely, urging us to question our relationship to language, power and control.

An American icon comes home.  During the early years of his career, American composer, conductor and arranger Henry Mancini and his family lived not far from where California State University, Northridge campus now stands.  On Saturday, October 13 at 8pm, Mancini's music comes home to Northridge as The Soraya presents Moon River and the Music of Henry Mancini.  Starring Monica Mancini with special guest three-time Tony nominated Joshua Henry, Moon River and the Music of Henry Mancini features Gregg Field as Music Director and Chris Walden conducting the New West Symphony.

The Actors' Gang announced today that the stage adaptation of Academy Award-winning screenwriter Dalton Trumbo's war novel, Johnny Got His Gun, written by Bradley Rand Smith and directed by Tim Robbins, will kick off The Actors' Gang 2018/19 Season from Saturday, October 6th to Saturday, November 10th, 2018. The press opening is Saturday, October 13.

Netflix Options the Rights to Phil Knight's SHOE DOG

Netflix has optioned the rights to The New York Times bestseller Shoe Dog, written by Phil Knight.  Five-time Academy Award nominated producer Frank Marshall will produce the film alongside Knight.  Golden Globe and Emmy Award winners Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski (Dolemite Is My Name!, Ed Wood, The People vs. Larry Flynt, The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) are writing the screenplay.

ROMEO AND JULIET Return to DC For Annual Free For All

Free For All, one of the capital's cherished annual traditions, will return this summer to Shakespeare Theatre Company (STC), offering two weeks of free performances of the Company's 2016 production of Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet. Directed by STC Associate Artistic Director Alan Paul, whose hit production of Camelot has extended through July 8 due to popular demand, the production will run at Sidney Harman Hall (610 F St NW) from August 21-September 2, providing more than 12,000 people the chance to see the play free of charge.

New York Youth Symphony Season 2018/19 Announcement

New York Youth Symphony (NYYS), is proud to continue its mission of providing an outstanding music education and performance opportunities to students between the ages of 12-22 by launching a new Musical Theater Composition program aimed at diversifying the world of musical theater. The new director and performance information is expected to be announced in summer 2018. Also new in 2018/19 the NYYS Orchestra and Chamber Music Programs will tour together for the first time ever to Spain in 2019, where they will explore cities including Madrid, Granada, and Seville.
