by Drew Eberhard - Apr 3, 2022

Murder on the Orient Express a stage adaptation of the Agatha Christie novel was written and adapted by Ken Ludwig and premiered in New Jersey in 2017. Based on the Christie novel that was first published in the United States in February 1934, and originally published under the name Murder on the Calais Coach. The twisted plot is full of a wild cast of characters. As Poirot puts it, “It was like a painting by Pablo Picasso.” We open the play in Istanbul at the Tokatlian Hotel, as we meet Poirot we understand he is due in London in three days' time due to the delivery of a telegram, and he runs into his old friend Bouc. His friend then arranges a trip on the Orient Express which he is the owner, and the two climb aboard with Poirot hoping he makes it to London on schedule. Upon boarding the Orient Express one by one Poirot meets an oddity of characters much like boarding a train to Carnival. As the train departs the station amidst the snowy conditions like an onion we see the layers of each of the passengers peeled back one by one.

BWW Interview: Vanessa Garcia And Victoria Collado of AMPARO
by Cristina Pla-Guzman - Mar 25, 2019

Approximately 330 miles…That's how far Havana, Cuba is from Miami, Florida. Within that space lies a distance of less than an hour. However, to some people it might as well be a lifetime away. I remember all my childhood being told about what Cuba used to be by my grandparents. As a third generation Cuban American living in Miami, Florida, as soon as we start to crawl, you are hearing about the good ole days before Fidel Castro stole Cuba from the people - people who still long for home. So I was thrilled to research into AMPARO. This one of a kind immersive theater experience is based on the compelling, true story of an immigrant family's triumph through exile. From present-day Miami to 1957-Cuba, where you will follow cast members through the Cuban Revolution, bearing witness to the story of the Arechabala family--founders of THE REAL HAVANA CLUB rum.

BWW Review: The Artistry Soars with Fantastic MARY POPPINS
by Peggy Sue Dunigan - Oct 17, 2018

The incomparable 'Mary Poppins' returns to Bloomington's The Artistry Theater on the winds of her iconic character's umbrella. Penned as a collection of eight stories beginning in the 1934, Walt Disney wrangled the rights from author PL Travers for their 1964 film. One of the studios crowning glories in its film history, the movie garnered eight academy awards. The Broadway adaptation, on view at Artistry, differs from the film featuring music and lyrics by Richard M. Sherman and Robert B. Sherman from a play created by Julian Fellows. Director Joel Sass and Music Director Anita Ruth along with Choreographer Joe Chavala produced a Broadway worthy musical at the Bloomington Arts Center, which the lyrics will aptly: 'Stretch your mind into the fantastic, dreams are made of strong elastic.'
