The Eugene O’Neill Theater Center has announced its 2022 summer season, which features the return of some beloved in-person public events put on pause during the virtual and hybrid seasons of 2020 and 2021. 

The Bayonne High School Drama Society will present The Wiz, the soulful adaptation of the Frank L. Baum novel, as their spring production. The musical debuted on Broadway in 1975 and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Direction and Best Choreography.

The Peabo Bryson concert originally scheduled for April 1 has been rescheduled to Friday, September 23 at 8 pm. All ticketholders will be contacted by the Box Office.

Tonight, NBC will air its sixth live musical production. Based on Harold Gray's comic strip titled Little Orphan Annie, this musical tells the story of a little orphan with equal measures of pluck and positivity who charms everyone's hearts, despite a next-to-nothing start in New York City in the year 1933.

Dallas Theater Center (DTC) celebrates 30 years with one of the city's most talented actors, Liz Mikel. She made her debut on the DTC mainstage in 1991, appearing in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Hope Mill Theatre has announced that this Christmas it will stage the first new UK production of The Wiz: The Super Soul Musical “Wonderful Wizard of Oz” in 10 years. With music and lyrics by Charlie Smalls, book by William F. Brown and original orchestrations by Harold Wheeler, The Wiz is a retelling of L. Frank Baum's classic children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

The story of Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Lion has continued to enthrall children and adults and been reinvented every generation. It found its most enduring place in American culture at the end of the Great Depression when The Wizard of Oz, the MGM feature film starring Judy Garland, opened on August 25, 1939.

The criteria are that these shows have been nominated for Best Musical from the 3rd Tony Awards (the ceremony that started the Best Musical category) in 1949 to the nominations of what will now be the 74th Tony Awards in 2021. I will be determining their signs based upon their Broadway premiere date. With those rules in mind, here we go!

There are certain artists whose names immediately fall in the 'legend' category and Diana Ross is one of them. Though no proof is needed, she is even a Kennedy Center Honoree, Grammy Award Winner, Tony Award Winner, and Oscar and Golden Globe Nominee. Her career spans over 50 years and dates back to the Motown era, as one of the most famous acts during that time. I was watching a Motown special a couple of weeks ago and Motown founder, Berry Gordy commented that 'Diana Ross and the Supremes' were the 'number one act' for Motown during its success period. Diana Ross is back in 2020 and dazzling more than ever before at seventy-five years old lighting up the Kennedy Center Stage with grace and incredible vocals.

Broadway World awarded musical, Be A Lion, written by Rory D. Sheriff, who recently won a?oeBest Directora?? at the Atlanta Black Theater Festival, returns with improvements and upgrades to the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center's Duke Energy Theater, at Spirit Square.
