?Broadway In Chicago is pleased to announce that ONCE, winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical and winner of the 2013 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album, will return to Chicago to play the Cadillac Palace Theatre (151 W Randolph) for a limited one-week engagement from June 2 through June 7. A day-of-performance lottery for a limited number of orchestra seats will be held for WICKED, which is returning to DPAC with performances from January 7-25. Two and one- half hours prior to each performance, people who present themselves at the DPAC box office will have their names placed in a lottery drum; thirty minutes later, names will be drawn for a limited number of orchestra seats at $25 each, cash only. This lottery is available only in-person at the box office, with a limit of two tickets per person. Lottery participants must have a valid photo ID when submitting their entry form and, if chosen, when purchasing tickets. (more...)

Reflecting on his career highlights as part of Jonathan Larson's seminal rock musical RENT and how it defined an entire generation, Pascal opens up about his participation in the early stages of the show as well as comments on the enduring legacy of Pulitzer Prize-winning musical in its 20th anniversary year. Matthews Playhouse's School of Theatre, presents West Side Story, the American musical inspired by William Shakespeare, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. This action-packed musical depicts the rivalry between to teen street gangs, The Jets and the Sharks of two different ethnic backgrounds. Emily Trainor, a high school senior at Providence High School and student of the School of Theatre portrays the role of Anita, the sexy, sassy sister of Bernardo, the leader of the Sharks. The young protagonist, Tony, a member of The Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the leader of the Sharks (Bernardo). Anita and Maria are friends that work at a bridal shop together. The conflict and prejudices that arise as a result of this "forbidden" love affair is explosive, entertaining, and captivating. (more...)

Beginning January 26, the Met will present a double-bill of two rarely performed one-act operas: Tchaikovsky's romantic fairy tale Iolanta, with Anna Netrebko in the title role of a blind princess and Piotr Beczala as Count Vaudémont, a knight who loves her; and Bartók's harrowing Bluebeard's Castle, with Nadja Michael as a bride who discovers the terrifying truth about her new husband, sung by Mikhail Petrenko. Valery Gergiev returns to the Met to conduct both operas, which will be presented in a production by acclaimed Polish director Mariusz Treli?ski in his Met debut. This season's performances will be the company premiere of Iolanta, Tchaikovsky's final opera, and the Met's first-ever staged performances of Bluebeard's Castle in the original Hungarian. The February 14 matinee performance will be transmitted worldwide as part of the Met's Live in HD series, which now reaches more than 2,000 movie theaters in 69 countries around the world. (more...)

Paper Mill Playhouse released a block of great seats today for its holiday musical, Elf, for the week following Christmas. Expanded availability includes performances from December 27, 2014 through January 4, 2015. Based on the 2003 film starring Will Ferrell, Elf has a book by Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, music by Matthew Sklar and lyrics by Chad Beguelin. Elf is directed by Eric Ankrim and choreographed by Josh Rhodes. Elf runs eight times a week at the Millburn, New Jersey, theater through January 4, 2015. Elf has been playing to many sold-out houses since November 26.
