eSe Teatro Joins Seattle Center in 'Next 50' with EL SON DE LOS DIABLOS 5/5; Mask Workshop 5/18; eSe ALL OVER 6/16

eSe Teatro: Seattle Latinos Take Stage, Seattle's Latino Theatre Collective, is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Seattle World Fair by participating in The Next Fifty Celebration. One of the few (and only Latino) artistic and cultural organizations chosen by the Seattle Center Foundation for funding, eSe Teatro has created a series of inclusive artistic programs.

May 5, 2012: eSe Teatro in Partnership with The AFrican ConeXion Project presents El Son de los Diablos (Devils' Dance Parade). This AfroPeruvian theatrical dance is beloved by kids and adults alike for the devils' playful antics, joyful dance and colorful costumes and masks. The stepping dance and parade are accompanied by lively music emphasized by unique instruments such as the Cajita (a small wooden box) and the Quijada, an animal jawbone.

Master Dancer and Choreographer Luis Sandoval of Peru travels to Seattle exclusively to choreograph this parade and dance. The parade starts off on the Monorail from Westlake Center (at approximately 12:40 pm) and culminates in a full performance at the EMP steps. Performance begins at 1:00 pm at the Seattle Center and is followed by a solo "Zapateo" performance and free workshop by Luis Sandoval.

May 18 & 20: eSe Teatro's own Arlene Martínez will lead a Mask-Making Workshop for ages 10 to 100, and up! Session I, on Friday May 18 runs from 3:30 to 6:30 pm. Session II, on Sunday May 20 runs from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. Because of the process of mask-making, participants are required to attend both sessions to complete the project. This is a free workshop and all materials & supplies are provided. No previous artistic experience is necessary! The workshop will be held at the Intiman Theatre, and globally broadcast as part of the Global Classroom initiative. June 16: eSe Teatro writers and directors produce a series of Outdoor Performances entitled eSe All Over. Included in the performances are "Frida in My Head" by Nilki Benitez, "Don Quixote: Homeless in Seattle" by Rose Cano, and "I Want to Live in America" by Arlene Martínez. Performances start at 1:00 pm and run at the top of the hour until the last performance at 3:00 pm.

All of these programs are funded by The Next Fifty.
