Justin Huertas and Sara Porkalob to Host the 9th Annual GREGORY AWARDS

Theatre Puget Sound (TPS) and the Gregory Awards announced today that critically-acclaimed writers and performers Justin Huertes and Sara Porklalob will host the 9th Annual Gregory Awards, live at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall at the Seattle Center on Monday, October 23 (7:30pm). This will be both Huertes and Porkalob's first time hosting the Gregory Awards, though neither are new-comers to the award ceremonies. Huertes is a 2015 two-time winner for his work Lizard Boy, while Porkalob was a featured performer in last year's ceremony.

About the Hosts Justin Huertes is a Seattle-based actor, musician, playwright, and songwriter. His original musical Lizard Boy premiered at Seattle Repertory Theatre (Gregory Award, Outstanding New Play & Outstanding Actor in a Musical) and had its second production at San Diego's Diversionary Theatre (Craig Noel Nomination, Outstanding Musical). Justin also composed and performed original music for Romeo and Juliet at Seattle Shakespeare Company (Gregory Nomination). Acting credits include Lizard Boy (Gregory, Footlight, Gypsy Rose Lee, Craig Noel Awards), In the Heights at Village Theatre (Gregory Nomination), and Welcome to Braggsville at Book-It Repertory Theatre. He recently wrote the music and lyrics for the upcoming adaptation of Howl's Moving Castle, presented by Book-It Repertory Theatre this winter.

Sara Porkalob is an award winning solo performer, director, and theatre theorist/activist recently recognized on City Art's 2017 Future List and currently serving as Intiman Theatre's 2017 Co-Curator. Her original musical about her gangster Filipino family, DRAGON LADY, will be premiering this fall produced by Intiman Theatre and in spring 2018 the show will be traveling to American Repertory Theatre as part of their Oberon Presents series. She will be also be performing in Howl's Moving Castle at Book-It Repertory Theatre and directing Washington Ensemble Theatre's Straight White Men this winter. About the Gregory Awards Theatre Puget Sound's 9th Annual Gregory Awards will be presented on Monday, October 23rd (7:30pm) at Marion Oliver McCaw Hall in Seattle, WA. The Gregory Awards, which honors theatre artists in the Seattle area for distinguished theatrical achievements, and are recognized as the most significant theatre awards in the Northwestern United States.

The official eligibility cut-off date will be Tuesday, August 1, 2017 for all Seattle-area productions opening in the 2016-2017 season. Productions which meet all other eligibility requirements and open on or before the eligibility date are considered eligible for 2017 Gregory Award nominations.

The Nominations for the 2017 Gregory Awards will be announced starting August 10th, through the following Friday August 18th.
