Granite, Cabaret and A Play, A Pie and A Pint actors Rodney Matthews, Mark Wood, Jonathan Vickers and Ewan Petrie are set to return to the city to star in a thrilling new production of The Pillowman created in Aberdeen.

After the monumental success of the sold out production of Cabaret, Aberdonian Director Derek Anderson returns to the Arts Centre and Theatre on the 20th to the 23rd of April with multi award-winning play The Pillowman by Martin McDonagh.

Tickets are now on sale.

The Pillowman is the hugely successful dark comedy written by Martin McDonagh who is best known for his films In Bruges and Seven Psychopaths. It was the winner of the 2004 Olivier Award for Best Play, the 2005 New York Drama Critics' Circle Award and two Tony Awards. McDonough's most recent play Hangmen is currently running in London's West End.

The Pillowman follows a writer in a totalitarian state who is interrogated about the gruesome content of his short stories and their similarities to a number of child-murders that are happening in his town. Two detectives tease out the resemblance between real and fictional worlds while probing the personal responsibility of the writer. Story piles upon story as the evening progresses and the tension mounts, when parallel interviews taking place in the adjoining cell with the writer's brother are revealed.

Director Derek Anderson's last project was the unique and immersive production of Cabaret at ACT Aberdeen where the venue was completely transformed into the infamous nightclub, complete with cabaret-style tables and chairs. The Pillowman is a continuation of the exciting new partnership between ACT Aberdeen and the producer/director. His other credits include the sold-out and critically acclaimed London revival of Sweeney Todd, which won the 2015 WhatsOnStage Award for Best Off-West-End Production.

Anderson said: "It's incredibly exciting to be able to present this epic and truly unique theatrical experience to an Aberdeen audience for the first time with a full professional cast. Alongside gripping plot twists, it combines horror and suspense with irresistible humour and unexpected moments of tenderness which keeps the audience on the edge of their seat, right to the very last line."
