Enrollment is now open for Marin Theatre Company's Summer Performance Camp for students entering grades 1-10 in the fall in the 2014 and Professional Actor Training Program for students entering grades 9-12 in the fall of 2014. Both experiential theater education programs run 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m., Monday-Friday, June 30-July 19, 2014, at Ring Mountain Day School, 70 Lomita Drive, Mill Valley; culminating in fully staged public performances on July 18 and 19 at MTC, 397 Miller Avenue, Mill Valley.

Performance Camp is a three-week long day camp that features morning training sessions and afternoon rehearsals with professional theater artists. Campers will be divided into age-specific groups that take classes in character development, dance, singing, improvisation, master classes and more and also rehearse Disney's Peter Pan Jr. Final performances of the 60-minute musical adapted from the 1953 Disney animated film are fully produced with costumes, sets and props.

A popular summer program, MTC's Summer Performance Camp regularly receives praise from participants - "This was the best experience of my life!" "This is the best camp ever!" - and parents - "My child loved the whole experience. It is such a positive theater camp. The productions are always impressive."

New this year, the Professional Actor Training Program is a three-week intensive that features professional development workshops in the morning and afternoon rehearsals with professional theater artists. The program is designed to place the same expectations on students as would be placed on professional actors, as they navigate through the process of creating a play from auditions to rehearsal to final performances. Workshops will cover such topics as how to communicate with the director and stage manager, taking effective blocking notes and the role of the actor in the rehearsal process.

The high school-age Training Program will produce Once on this Island, a one-act musical based on the 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy - often described as A Little Mermaid with a dash of Romeo and Juliet and set in the French Antilles.

DETAILS
Summer Performance Camp: Three-week intensive summer day camp for students entering grades 1-10 in the fall, culminating with fully staged performances of Disney's Peter Pan Jr. Marin Theatre Company's program takes students through the process of creating a play, from auditions through rehearsal to performing in a full-scale production. Students will engage their imaginations, study theater and work together as an ensemble to put on a production during this exciting and comprehensive summer experience. Campers are divided into age specific groups that attend theater classes and rehearsals together.

Professional Actor Training Program: Three-week intensive for students entering grades 9-12, culminating in performances in the Boyer Theater at Marin Theatre Company. Performers are immersed into the process of mounting a production like professional actors. Students will engage the skills that they have developed through their high school drama programs as they apply them in an advanced environment that raises the bar of expectation and challenges each actor to take their craft to the next level. As the program is structured after a professional rehearsal process, students will have one professional development workshop in the morning and the remainder of the day will be focused on rehearsal.

COST
