The series won widespread popular and critical acclaim for elevating audio storytelling into the realm of great literature. As senior producer of This American Life, Reed oversees the editorial direction of the program with host and executive producer Ira Glass. In his seven years with the show, Reed created some of its most ambitious stories. Reed has investigated multiple sketchy FBI operations, as well as produced stories about strange coincidences and car salesmen on Long Island and a turkey who terrorized a neighborhood before getting murdered by police. His journalism has helped an immigrant gain asylum in the U.S. and prompted a Senate Committee to grill the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Before joining This American Life as an intern in 2010, Reed reported and produced for NPR as one of their Kroc Fellows and their first Above the Fray Fellow. AN EVENING WITH MICHAEL POLLAN
THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2018 at 8 P.M.
TICKETS: $35 - $49
Best-Selling Author and Sustainable Food Advocate, Michael Pollan's books about food, diet, and industrial agriculture have made him an influential voice in America's food fight over obesity, nutrition, and diabetes. Best known for 2006's The Omnivore's Dilemma: A Natural History of Four Meals, he is revered by those who believe that something is fundamentally wrong with how we mass produce and prepare our meals. Pollan's new book, Cooked: A Natural History of Transformation, focuses on another aspect of American life we haven't thought enough about: the kitchen. In his hands, cooking is no longer a workaday chore: it's alchemy, it's revolutionary, and it's what makes us human. Though we've tried to shrink kitchen time with microwaves and minute rice, Pollan writes that cooking is "the single most important thing an ordinary person can do to reform the American food system"-and if history is any guide, we'll soon share his enthusiasm.

VERSA-STYLE DANCE COMPANY
TUESDAY, APRIL 24, 2018 at 8 P.M. PRESHOW DISCUSSION 7 P.M.
TICKETS: $25 - $40
Versa-Style Dance Company celebrates the most vibrant elements of hip-hop culture-the spirit of inclusion, innovation, reverence and authenticity. The live experience is similar to that of a live music video, pulsing and driving, quick cutting and dissolving. Versa-Style create highly energetic work that fuses dances that are culturally significant within the community. These forms include Hip-Hop styles such as 90s Hip-Hop, House, Popping, Locking, Whacking and Boogaloo, and Afro-Latin styles such as Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia and Afro-Cuban to name a few. In reaction to the widespread media misrepresentation of these dance forms, Versa-Style performs regularly for the youth of Los Angeles to instill the roots, history, and social and political issues surrounding the art of this generation. Hip-Hop breaks color lines by creating a forum where people come together for a common passion rather than grouping themselves by race or socio-economic backgrounds. Versa-Style demonstrates freedom of expression, freedom of individuality, hard work, self-discipline and dedication to the form.
