This week the B Street Theatre Winter School Tour hits the road! In addition to the annual highly acclaimed and wildly successful "Fantasy Festival" playwriting contest, this year for the first time B Street Theatre solicited student written plays for their Winter Tour show: "Queens and Kings, Jokers and Jacks: Historical Adaptations of Medieval and Ancient History!" Out of over 60 plays submitted, 4 have been selected for the tour. The resulting show featuring all 4 winning plays will be performed at 84 assemblies in 80 schools in northern California between January 12 and February 20, 2015, with a special public performance at the B Street Theatre on February 7 at 10 a.m.

The winning plays are: Polyphemus' Cave by James Poetzscher, Jack Setrakian, Maya McDonald, and Douglas Dawkins from San Francisco Day School in San Francisco; Perseus and the Gorgon's Head by Lucy Hurlbut, Blair Mendes, Simone Jacques, Claudia Elsesser, and Tabitha Cahan from San Francisco Day School in San Francisco; The Jester by Angela Tomasello from Williamson Elementary School in Rancho Cordova; A Friendly Rival by Lilly Ann Edwards-Graves from Taylor Street Elementary School in Sacramento.

Young imaginations leap from the page to the stage, with the help of B Street's professional artistic and production staff. Though officially targeting grades Kindergarten through 8th, B Street's fast-paced and highly entertaining productions grab the attention of older students and adults as well. The plays this year take the audience on an unusual journey - from Ancient Greece, to the Middle Ages, to the Italian Renaissance, to a clever re-imagining of Perseus & Medusa set in the 1970's disco era Brooklyn, NY!

More about B Street Theatre: The two-theatre playhouse on B Street in Midtown is home to Mainstage, B3 and Family Series, each created to house quality theatre for audiences year-round. Recognized as one of Northern California's top professional theatres, B Street Theatre has produced more than 100 new plays, 60 of which are world, national, West Coast, or regional premieres.
