Jennie Litt and David Alpher to Celebrate Release of TWO APPLES at Metropolitan Room, 6/5

Jennie Litt and David Alpher, Brooklyn's own married songwriting duo, celebrate the May release of their debut recording, TWO APPLES, with an appearance at New York's Metropolitan Room on Thursday, June 5 at 7pm. TWO APPLES is a collection of eleven original songs covering topics ranging from lingerie to gym addiction to the random miracle of existence. Ms. Litt describes Alpher&Litt as "eclectic writers inspired by American popular song and most comfortable in an idiom that's equal parts musical theatre, Tin Pan Alley, and Allan Sherman." Additionally, Litt is an award-winning fiction writer and Alpher a world-renowned composer. (more...)

Deborah Voigt Set for Metropolitan Opera's WOZZECK, 3/6-22

With James Levine on the podium, and Thomas Hampson in the title role, Deborah Voigt will make her role debut as Marie in Alban Berg's harrowing opera Wozzeck at New York's Metropolitan Opera (March 6 - 22). The revival of this 'arrestingly abstract ' (New York Times) staging of Berg's landmark opera is highly anticipated, pairing two beloved American singers with a conductor - the Met's music director - who is widely regarded as one of the work's most passionate advocates. The fifth and final performance of Wozzeck this season will be broadcast live on Saturday, March 22 in the Metropolitan Opera Radio Broadcast series on WQXR 105.9 FM and online at www.wqxr.org. In April, Voigt heads out for a four-city recital tour, taking her to three venues in California and a return engagement in the 75th anniversary season of Boston's popular Celebrity Series. On May 14, she returns to the Met to host the 'Live in HD' broadcast of Rossini's La Cenerentola. (more...)

Judith Clurman to Conduct Essential Voices USA with New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, 12/19-20

Judith Clurman's Essential Voices USA will be performing as part of The New York Pops holiday concerts, under the baton of Steven Reineke, at Carnegie Hall on December 19 and 20, 2013. Ms. Clurman will perform Stephen Paulus' choral work Wishes and Candles with her chorus and the orchestra, to honor her friend and colleague Stephen Paulus. It will be performed in a newly orchestrated version by Steven Mercurio. Wishes and Candles was composed in 1998. The text is by Alan and Marilyn Bergman. It is dedicated to Judith Clurman and the Lincoln Center Tree Lighting. (more...)
