The trailer for Rare Objects, starring, written, directed, and produced by Katie Holmes, has been released. The film also stars Tony winner Alan Cumming, Julie Mayorga, Derek Luke, and Saundra Santiago. This coming season, AMERICAN SCOREBOARD, a series of actor-performed, verbatim readings of actual U.S. Congressional hearing transcripts, will once again join forces with HB STUDIO to perform four readings featuring HB students and alumni.  The series will kick-off on Monday, September 16 at 7pm at the HB Playwrights Theatre (124 Bank Street) with a performance of testimony given on March 6, 2019 before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee on Protecting Dreamers and TPS (Temporary Protected Status) recipients.   Admission to the reading is free and reservations can be made at hbstudio.eventbrite.com.

Encores! Off-Center Artistic Director Anne Kauffman today announced casting for the production of Promenade (July 10 & 11) as part of New York City Center's 75th Anniversary Season.

Despite an earlier report from the Hollywood Reporter, it has been reported that Academy Award-winner Rita Moreno (West Side Story) will not join the cast of the upcoming big screen adaptation of the Tony Award-winning Best Musical, In The Heights, after all.

Anthony Ramos has been tapped to star in the film adaptation of Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit 2005 Broadway musical, In the Heights, according to Variety. 

The Kennedy Center's production of IN THE HEIGHTS concluded its run yesterday. Anthony Ramos, who originated the roles of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton in the Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton, starred as Usnavi in the Broadway Center Stage production of In the Heights at The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Presented as a part of the inaugural season of Broadway Center Stage, a Kennedy Center-produced series of musicals in semi-staged concerts, In the Heights ran March 21-25, 2018 in the Eisenhower Theater.

Lin-Manuel Miranda surprised the standing-room-only crowd at the Kennedy Center's Broadway Center Stage production of his Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights on Saturday night. He was joined in the audience byHamilton and In the Heights music director Alex Lacamoire, Hamilton and In the Heights percussionist Andres Forero, andHamilton and In the Heights star Javier Muñoz. At the end of the performance, Lacamoire led the on stage orchestra in the show's finale with Forero joining on percussion. Miranda then joined the cast for their final bow.

With the juggernaut that is Hamilton playing DC this summer, it was probably a good marketing strategy for the Kennedy Center to use its new Broadway Center Stage series to (re)-introduce local audiences to Lin-Manuel Miranda's first Broadway musical, the Tony Award-winning In the Heights. Avid local theatergoers have likely seen the show before and fairly recently at that. Last season, Olney Theater Center and Round House Theatre co-produced a well-received production and GALA Hispanic Theatre presented the U.S. Spanish language premiere. However, the five-night, sold out run at Kennedy Center offers another look at the show - this time with an Encores-like staging featuring some of Broadway's best talent directed by original cast member Stephanie Klemons.
