Origin Theatre Company and the Irish Arts Center are jointly presenting a star-studded commemorative reading of Richard Norton-Taylor’s “Bloody Sunday: Scenes from the Saville Enquiry” to mark the 50th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, a seismic turning point in the history of Northern Ireland.

The 14th annual Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival, the world’s only theatre festival devoted to producing and presenting the theatrical work of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, will introduce a new hybrid of digital and in-person formats that amplifies the Festival’s trans-Atlantic identity.

Origin Theatre Company will announce the bulk of its current 19th season at a gala dinner at the Manhattan Penthouse, 80 Fifth Avenue (at 14th Street), on Tuesday December 7, at 6:30pm.  The evening will honor Origin’s founder George C. Heslin and board member Andrea Haughian, vice president of business development for Invest Northern Ireland.

The Unsung Hero by award-winning Irish playwright David Gilna will be staged at The New York Irish Center this Friday 24th September starring Micheal Mellamphy after wowing audiences from the success of their virtual debut in New York for this years St Patrick's Day Festivities.

On Sunday June 13 at 3pm, Origin Theatre Company will present the 8th annual edition of its popular immersive Bloomsday celebration, renamed the “Bloomsday Revel.” the distance-safe, in-person staging mixes a juried costume contest and dramatic readings from “Ulysses” -- performed by a cast of celebrated New York-based Irish actors.

The 2021 “European Month of Culture NYC,” produced by Origin Theatre Company in partnership with the Delegation of the European Union to the United States, is restarting this month with a series of play readings and panel talks involving playwrights, producers and cultural organizations from New York, Romania, Ireland, Spain, Greece, and more.  

Origin Theatre Company has appointed the actor and producer Michael Mellamphy to serve as its new artistic director, replacing Origin’s founder George C. Heslin, who became the new executive director of the New York Irish Center in October last year.

Irish Repertory Theatre will present Poetic Reflections: Words Upon the Window Pane, a series of films from the Adrian Brinkerhoff Poetry Foundation (Amy Holmes, Executive Director), featuring poets and actors reading poems from Ireland, the United States and England. 

The 13th annual Origin 1st Irish Theatre Festival wrapped up its first all-virtual edition last week with a closing ceremony attended by audience members from both sides of the Atlantic.  This year the world's only festival devoted to producing and presenting the plays of contemporary Irish playwrights from around the world, hosted a total of 20 virtual events, in three weeks from January 11 to 31. 

Running three weeks from January 11 to 31, the 2021 Origin 1st Irish will present a total of 20 virtual events, including recorded Theatrical Productions made both before and during Covid from Belfast, Dublin, Wexford, London and New York.

A colorful bouquet of singers, actors and luminaries from New York and the Island of Ireland are taking part in a uniquely trans-Atlantic online version of Origin Theatre's annual immersive Bloomsday Breakfast, co-hosted with Bloom's Tavern in Midtown Manhattan.

Greenburger Mainstage. The cast of Little Gem includes four-time Academy Award nominee and two-time Golden Globe Award winner Marsha Mason (The Goodbye Girl) as Kay, Brenda Meaney(Party Face) as Lorraine, and Lauren O'Leary (The Awkward Years) as Amber.
