The Jeff Awards Committee today announced 118 nominations in 24 categories for the 42nd Annual Non-Equity Jeff Awards for productions that opened between April 1, 2014, and March 31, 2015. The Non-Equity Awards honor excellence in Chicago theatres not under a union contract. Jeff judges attended opening nights of 133 productions offered by 56 Non-Equity producing organizations. The Jeff Committee recommended 62 of those shows, making them eligible for Non-Equity Jeff Award nominations. Of the 62 Jeff Recommended productions, 46 received nominations, representing 23 theatre companies. (more...)

Tangent Theatre Company, based in the intimate Carpenter Shop Theater in Tivoli's village center, announces a fifth week of performances for their Spring 2015 production: the contemporary moral drama Lobby Hero by Kenneth Lonergan. The play will now run through Sunday, May 3. Set in a Manhattan apartment building lobby, the story examines the shades of grey between right and wrong, and centers on the main character, Jeff, the building's security guard, and three other diverse characters, including Jeff's supervisor William and two New York City police officers (Bill and Dawn). Remaining performances of Lobby Hero are Thursdays - Saturdays 8pm; Sundays 3pm. (more...)

NEW YORK, NY — On Thursday, May 21, 2015 at 7:30pm, violinist and artistic director Gil Morgenstern's acclaimed Reflections Series International will present its final concert of the 2014-2015 season, “Nature's Bounty,” at Avenues: The World School (259 Tenth Ave.). The program will feature Morgenstern with violinist Harumi Rhodes, violist Kathryn Lockwood, cellist Astrid Schween, and percussionist Yousif Sheronick, performing music and text inspired by composers' personal encounters with both natural and man-made landscapes; immortalizing them through works of unparalleled beauty and drama. This artistic journey, from flowing crystalline streams in China to the haunting terrain of the Middle East to the wide-open prairies of the American Great Plains, includes music by Antonin Dvo?ák, Zhou Long, and Riyad El-Soumbati, along with text from the works of Mary Shelly, Naguib Mahfouz, and Gaetano Cipolla, narrated by Obie Award-winning actor Bill Camp. Director Walter Meierjohann has announced the cast of the world premiere of The Funfair, the first HOME production in its brand new home at First Street in Manchester. New Hampshire Theatre Project's Youth Repertory Company will present Eugene Ionesco's absurdist classic, Rhinoceros, on May 15-24. One day, the residents of a small provincial French town begin to experience unsettling brushes with a rampaging rhinoceros. While others find these attacks shocking and problematic, the simplistic, kind-hearted protagonist Berenger is seemingly disinterested. Events begin to take a strange turn as Berenger's friends, co-workers, and his romantic interest become tangled in this web of "rhinocerotic" intrigue and he is forced to choose sides. (more...)

New Yiddish Rep is announcing the postponement of its vaudeville project 'Seltzer Nights' due to scheduling conflicts with the creative team. A darkly theatrical cabaret that recreates the bawdy, boisterous atmosphere of a Lower East Side Yiddish music hall a century ago, 'Seltzer Nights' began on Saturday March 21 and was scheduled to incubate at the Castillo Theatre, 543 West 42nd Street, through June 13.
