Rubicon's Youth Production of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE to Run 8/13-16

Rubicon's Summer Youth Program presents The Drowsy Chaperone, the Tony Award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison based on a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. With direction by Brian McDonald, musical direction by Miriam Arichea and choreography by Carolanne Marano, The Drowsy Chaperone features over 25 local youth performers in a production well suited for children, adults and families. Opening Wednesday, August 13th and running through Saturday, August 16th, performances of The Drowsy Chaperone begin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and continue 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday, and 2 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Saturday. Rubicon's Summer Youth Program opens BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, JR. featuring songs from the Academy Award-winning animated feature. This stage version of the beloved Disney classic includes music by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. Staged Version of Gabriel Kahane's THE AMBASSADOR Travels the U.S.; Album Out Now

Gabriel Kahane's critically acclaimed new album The Ambassador draws its inspiration from a multitude of sources to tell intimate, human stories against the backdrop of Los Angeles architecture and popular culture. Released on June 3 via Sony Music Masterworks, The Ambassador is a collection of ten songs for ten buildings in Los Angeles. A fully staged version of The Ambassador starring Kahane, directed by Tony-winner John Tiffany (Once, Black Watch) will be presented this season at BAM, UCLA, and Carolina Performing Arts. (more...)

Captain Calvin Spalding from M*A*S*H (the singing surgeon) and the singer of "Dead Skunk (in the Middle of the Road)" is going to light up the stage of The Ridgefield Playhouse on Friday, September 12, at 8 p.m. Loudon Wainwright III is a critically acclaimed songwriter who won the 2010 Grammy Award for Best Traditional Folk Album High, Wide and Handsome: The Charlie Poole Project. Legendary artists including Johnny Cash and Bonnie Raitt have covered his songs --from folk, rock and blues to comedy. This event is part of the Doyle Coffin Singer/Songwriter Series. (more...)

The Florida Orchestra Names Michael Francis as Its New Music Director

The Florida Orchestra (TFO) has announced the appointment of Michael Francis as its new Music Director starting with the 2015/2016 season, serving as Music Director Designate for the upcoming 2014/2015 season. Appointed as part of an initial three-year contract, his duties include being the primary conductor and providing the artistic leadership for concert programming and related artistic decisions. Although his primary role is with the Tampa Bay Times Masterworks series, he will also be conducting one concert each season for the Raymond James Pops and the morning Coffee Concert series. This reflects Francis' personal desire to be fully-integrated artistically with the orchestra and the organization. (more...)

On Saturday June 14th, pop, jazz, and musical theatre stars from all over the world joined forces at the Sony Centre for the Performing Arts in Toronto to perform in 'If I Loved You: Gentlemen Prefer Broadway,' a concert showcasing and redefining love songs from classic Broadway musicals. For the finale, the cast, which included David Byrne, Boy George, Ezra Koenig (Vampire Weekend), Josh Groban, Brent Carver, Steven Page, Brennan Hall and concert organizer Rufus Wainwright, sang their own rendition of 'Summer Nights' from Grease. WFUV to Broadcast Clearwater Festival, 6/21-22

WFUV (90.7 FM/wfuv.org) will be broadcasting live for the first time from Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival at Croton Point Park in Croton-on-Hudson, NY, on both Saturday, June 21 and Sunday, June 22. This year's festival, which is dedicated to founders Pete and Toshi Seeger, both of whom died in the past year, has a star-studded lineup. WFUV will be on-site broadcasting live from 2-9 p.m. on Saturday and 12-8:30 p.m. on Sunday. Virtually the entire WFUV air staff will be on hand to introduce the artists onstage, share backstage interviews and observations, and meet fans at the FUV booth. (more...)
