SHAKESPEARE'S SISTER (OR LA VIE MATERIELLE) to Play La MaMa, 9/20-10/6

Irina Brook continues her father Peter's tradition at La MaMa with Shakespeare's Sister (or La Vie Materielle), which adapts Virginia Woolf's A Room Of One's Own and Marguerite Duras' La Vie Materielle. Adapted and directed by the younger Brook, the work is set at a fantasy dinner party, where five women prepare the cuisine while singing, dancing and discussing their place in the world. La MaMa will present the New York Premiere September 20 - October 6 at the Ellen Stewart Theatre (66 East 4th Street). The production will feature a diverse ensemble including OBIE-winner Winsome Brown as Virginia Woolf, novelist and former French Vogue editor Joan Juliet Buck (Julie and Julia) as Maugerite Duras, actress Nicole Ansari ("Deadwood," Broadway and West End productions of Tom Stoppard's Rock and Roll, Theatre du Soleil), concert violin soloist Yibin Li and British singer/songwriter Sadie Jemmett.

The U.S. premiere of Massive Attack V Adam Curtis will open at Park Avenue Armory September 28. The epic work, created by film maker Adam Curtis and Robert Del Naja, will run through October 4 and is a co-commission of Park Avenue Armory, Manchester International Festival, and Ruhrtriennale International Festival of the Arts.

Ross Valley Players is proud to open their 2013 - 2014 season with the Tony Award nominated play, Chapter Two, a story about love and second chances by renowned playwright Neil Simon. This semi-autobiographical play is seasoned with plenty of Neil Simon's wit and an honest understanding of human emotions. Chapter Two matches George, a widowed New York novelist, and Jennie, a recently divorced actress, who are pushed together by his brother Leo and her neurotic married friend Faye. What follows is a seesaw courtship that provides love and laughs in this very human and ultimately touching comedy. Chapter Two begins with a preview on Thursday, September 12 and runs through Sunday, October 13. Opening Night is Friday, September 13 at 8PM.

August Strindberg Rep Adjusts Dates for MR. BENGT'S WIFE; Will Now Run 9/13-29

August Strindberg Repertory Theatre (www.strindberg.org), which was formed in 2012 to illuminate Strindberg's plays for today's American audiences, will present the English language premiere of Strindberg's 'Mr. Bengt's Wife' (1882), directed by Craig Baldwin (Associate Artistic Director of Red Bull Theater) September 13 to 29, 2013 at the Gene Frankel Theatre, 24 Bond Street, where August Strindberg Rep is the resident company. 'Mr. Bengt's Wife' has been characterized as Strindberg's answer to Ibsen's 'The Doll's House.' It utilizes realism, expressionism, melodrama and dreamscape to tell the story of the rebellious Margit, whose quest to become an independent New Woman catapults her from a convent to a castle, where her husband and two lovers vie for her attention.

SF Girls Chorus Opens Season with FRENCH IMPRESSIONS, 11/3

The five-time Grammy-winning San Francisco Girls Chorus will open its 2013-2014 35th anniversary season Sunday, November 3, 2013, at 7 pm at Marines' Memorial Theatre in San Francisco with a concert of music both French and French-inspired, conducted by new Music Director and Principal Conductor Valerie Sainte-Agathe. The program, entitled French Impressions, will feature Poulenc's Les petites voix; Maurice Ohana's 4 petits choeurs, Debussy's Nuit d'etoiles, Morton Lauridsen's Dirait-on, Eric Whitacre's Seal Lullaby, Antoine Busnoys' "A que ville" (with soloist Lisa Bielawa, new Artistic Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus) and works by other composers. Theatre Planners presents Greeks 6 - Trojans 5, a world premiere comedy with music written by Chuck Faerber, directed by Rick Kuhlman, similar in style and spirit to 'A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum' but whackier, involving Greek soldiers embedded in the fabled Trojan Horse. Although set in the ancient world, Greeks 6 - Trojans 5 is a hilarious, eccentric, and irreverent send-up of modern warfare, technology, and mores (yes - mores!). LA Opera Presents EINSTEIN ON THE BEACH, 10/11

As a special addition to the season, LA Opera presents a rare revival of the groundbreaking 1976 collaboration by Robert Wilson and Philip Glass. Universally hailed as one of the greatest artistic achievements of the 20th century, Einstein on the Beach breaks all rules of conventional opera. Non-narrative in form, the work uses a series of powerful recurrent images as its main dramatic device shown in juxtaposition with abstract dance sequences created by Lucinda Childs. The Los Angeles performances will be the final North American stop of the production's international tour.

Beginning at 6pm, the evening included cocktails provided by Bacardi USA, a silent auction, performances, art installations, dinner, dancing, and a live auction hosted by auctioneer Simon de Pury. Times Square Digital Screens Jack Goldstein's 1978 Film THE JUMP, Begin. Tonight

Pioneering artist Jack Goldstein's seminal 1978 film 'The Jump' will be shared with New Yorkers and visitors amidst the modern digital frenzy of Times Square in the August 'Midnight Moment', a synchronized program on over fifteen of the largest digital signs in Times Square. Goldstein's work will premiere just before midnight on August 1st and play every night throughout August from 11:57 p.m. - midnight. The 'Midnight Moment' is a presentation of the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts. This month's program coincides with the critically-acclaimed first American retrospective of the artist at The Jewish Museum. This comprehensive exhibition frames Goldstein as a central and influential figure of the 'Pictures Generation' of the 1970s and 1980s and runs through September 29, 2013.
