BAM150, Brooklyn Academy of Music Documentary, Airs on THIRTEEN Today

To commemorate its sesquicentennial, BAM (Brooklyn Academy Of Music) commissioned BAM150, a feature length documentary conceived by award-winning director Michael Sladek that weaves together the institution's vibrant past, present, and future presenting a rich history that mirrors the evolution of performing arts in 20th century America. This landmark film premiered last year at the Tribeca Film Festival and will air tonight, April 19 at 10pm on THIRTEEN.

FLW College Fishing is headed to Smith Mountain Lake April 27 for the first of four stops in the Northern Conference. Fifty college teams will be competing for a top award of $2,000 and a berth in the Northern Conference Invitational tournament.

UW School of Drama presents Once Upon a Time 6X in The West, based on the musical play The Story of Little Horse. Book and lyrics by Jeffrey Frace with music by Frank Ferrara, Jeffrey Frace, Sari Breznau, Rob Witmer, Spencer Hamp and Christian Frederickson, premiering at the Floyd and Delores Jones Playhouse. Previews begin tonight, April 17, 2013. The production runs through Sunday, April 28, and features the School of Drama's undergraduate program students and guest performers.

Columbia Stages will present NEW PLAYS NOW, the annual festival of new plays by emerging artists from the MFA Theatre Program at Columbia University School of the Arts. NEW PLAYS NOW will run from tonight, April 17 to May 11 and will feature original works by Paulina Barros, Keith Boynton, Talya Chalef, Angelica Cheri, Pei-Chieh Chiang, Paola Lazaro Muñoz, Alessandra Most, Christina Quintana, Torrey Townsend, and Zhao Binghao.

Jonah Bokaer's THE ULYSSES SYNDROME to Make US Premiere as Part of FIAF, 5/9-10

Jonah Bokaer's "The Ulysses Syndrome," will receive its U.S. premiere when it is performed as part of FIAF's World Nomads Festival, which this year focuses on Tunisia, the place of Bokaer's father's birth. The dance will be performed May 9 and 10 at Florence Gould Hall.

The Brown University/Trinity Rep MFA Programs will present a dramatic reinvention of the Shakespearian classic Romeo and Juliet, directed by Ryan Purcell (Brown/Trinity Rep MFA Programs '13). Experience this timeless tale of forbidden passion in a new way: a world filled with violence, jealousy, and ultimately loss transformed. Performances are May 7 through May 19 in the Citizens Bank Theater, Pell Chafee Performance Center, 87 Empire Street, Providence. The New York Philharmonic will present A Dancer's Dream: Two Works by Stravinsky, a multidisciplinary, theatrical reimagining of the ballets The Fairy's Kiss and Petrushka, created by Giants Are Small. Sara Mearns, New York City Ballet principal dancer, will star in the production, which will be conducted by Music Director Alan Gilbert, directed and designed by Doug Fitch, choreographed by Karole Armitage, and produced by Edouard Getaz - Thursday, June 27, 2013, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, June 28 at 8:00 p.m.; and Saturday, June 29 at 8:00 p.m.

Digital Gallery in Times Square to Feature 'THE POWER OF WORDS' in April

A spectacular visual and inspirational message will greet New Yorkers and visitors to the Crossroads of the World this April, as part of a synchronized program on fifteen of the largest digital screens in Times Square. 'The Power of Words,' a new short film compilation of Nelson Mandela's words, pays tribute to the peaceful vision of the South African leader on the occasion of his upcoming 95th birthday and was created especially for the Times Square screens. Throughout April, the film will air from 11:57 pm - midnight as part of the Midnight Moment: A Digital Gallery, a presentation of the Times Square Advertising Coalition (TSAC) and Times Square Arts in collaboration with the Tribeca Film Institute (TFI) and Nelson Mandela Foundation. The showing also coincides with National Poetry Month.

Park Avenue Armory Adds Performance of OKTOPHONIE, 3/24

Due to overwhelming demand, Park Avenue Armory announced today that it has added one additional performance, on Sunday, March 24 at 4pm, of Karlheinz Stockhausen's OKTOPHONIE to its schedule. Part of Stockhausen's magnum opus "Licht" (or "Light") OKTOPHONIE is a trailblazing electronic music experience where the audience is surrounded by eight groups of loudspeakers, enveloping them in a sonic environment. The Armory had originally scheduled six performances of the work, then added two others when the first six almost immediately sold out. The addition of the performance on March 24 at 4pm brings the total to nine performances. The eight other performances of OKTOPHONIE are completely sold out.
