Aradhana Tiwari Named New Resident Director of Mad Cow Theatre

Mad Cow Theatre has announced that Aradhana Tiwari will join the company as Resident Director, beginning with the 2014 - 2015 season. Tiwari is a Central Florida-based artist who has guest-directed at Mad Cow since 2012. Her production of The Road to Mecca in 2012 was the first in Mad Cow's Zehngebot-Stonerock Theatre, one of two spaces in the company's new location in downtown Orlando. (more...)

Tony Award-winning comedy Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike will feature Resident Actor Jeffrey Bean as Vanya, Sharon Lockwood returning to the Alley as Sonia, Alley Artist Josie de Guzman returning as Masha, and Resident Actor Jay Sullivan as Spike. Rounding out the cast and making their Alley debuts are Rachael Holmes as Cassandra and Sarah Nealis as Nina. Everyman Theatre has announced that beginning with its upcoming production of Nina Raine's award-winning play Tribes, audience members will have the ability to use personal handheld closed captioning devices during every performance. An early adopter of the new technology, Everyman is proud to be among the first theatres in the country to offer this option to its audiences for every performance. Berkeley Rep Extends TRIBES Through May 18

Berkeley Repertory Theatre announces that today, due to extraordinary ticket demand, it will extend Tribes by seven performances before its first performance. Originally scheduled to run through May 11, audiences now have the opportunity to experience the critically acclaimed family drama by Nina Raine through Sunday, May 18. Directed by Jonathan Moscone, the play follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and be heard. Tribes start previews Friday, April 11, opens on April 16, and now closes on Sunday, May 18, 2014. Open-captioned performances for Tribes will take place Thursday, May 8 at 8 PM; Friday, May 9 at 8 PM; and Sunday, May 11 at 2 PM. Berkeley Rep is also proud to offer three American Sign Language-interpreted performances today, May 3 at 8 PM, Today, May 10 at 2 PM, and Tuesday, May 13 at 8 PM. Everyman Theatre Announces ASL-Interpreted Performances of TRIBES

Everyman Theatre has announced that it will be performing five ASL-interpreted performances of Nina Raine's award-winning play Tribes. The theatre company will also be offering captioned performances for the first time. There will be two captioned performances during the run of the show. The Baltimore premiere is a hysterical and touching coming-of-age story about a young deaf man and his struggle for self-identity. The production will begin performances on May 27th (its Pay What You Can Performance) and will run through June 22nd. (more...)

The Unicorn Theatre in Kansas City, Mo. announced their 41st season for 2014-2015. The Unicorn utilizes two stages for productions, the Jerome stage, and the Levin Stage. Recently the name of The Mainstage as it had been known was changed to honor Producing Artistic Director, Cynthia Levin. The theatre also announced the Longevity Campaign, to raise funds to purchase their building, was successful and on April 17 they took custody of the theater building. The purchase of the building allows the Unicorn to cut production costs. (more...)

Her profound and powerful new play became an award-winning hit in London and New York. Now renowned director Jonathan Moscone brings it to Berkeley Rep this April for its Bay Area premiere. Tribes follows Billy, a young man who was born deaf into a loquacious and highly opinionated academic family who raised him to lip-read and integrate into the hearing world. When he meets Sylvia - raised by Deaf parents and going deaf herself - Billy decides it's time to speak on his own terms and to be heard. Playing out in words, sign language, and sometimes mesmerizing silence, this penetrating drama examines familial love, notions of belonging, and the intersections of communication.
