The Kimmel Center & Joe's Pub Join Forces

The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts and Joe's Pub at The Public join forces once again for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the tutelage of Jay Wahl, Producing Artistic Director of the Kimmel Center, and Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, the program serves as an incubator for artists and their collaborators to create and develop music and theater projects. The program will be held in the Kimmel Center's SEI Innovation Studio (300 South Broad Street, Philadelphia, PA) from June 18-30 with Public Readings, free and open to the public, on June 29 and 30. Readings will be followed by Q&A sessions with the artists.

Make Music New York, a one-of-a-kind festival occurring each June 21, today announced its full schedule of over 1,000 free outdoor concerts, music lessons and jam sessions in public spaces across the five boroughs. The daylong musical celebration on the summer solstice is the flagship event of Make Music Day, which is being held in more than 80 U.S. cities and has become a global phenomenon observed by hundreds of millions of people in 800 cities in 120 countries.

Joe's Pub at The Public and Village Alliance join forces to officially launch Joe's Pub @ Astor Place, a summer series comprised of three free outdoor concerts on the pedestrian plaza of Astor Place. The series includes the venue's annual showcase for the city-wide music festival Make Music New York on June 21, a Friday Night Cabaret on July 27 where funk rock legend Nona Hendryx will host her very own Black Tar Beach Party, and Astor Alive! on September 22. All events are free and open to the public.

A celebration of diversity, the 4-Star Solo Show Festival at the Provincetown Theater will feature four star-turn performances that, variously, include outrageous comic characters, Broadway belting, bilingual jokes, disco dancing, a countertenor aria, a real life behind-the-scenes look at what it's like to be a gay porn star, and a guest appearance from "Scream Along with…" Billy Hough.

Migguel Anggelo, a regular of Joe's Pub has written a new piece in response to last year's shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The piece, titled Welcome to La Misa, Baby, will debut at the Clemente Theater in New York City as part of the theater's Fearless series. The series will feature work by members of the LGBTQ community that were written in response to the Pulse tragedy.

Joe's Pub at The Public partners, once again, with Philadelphia's renowned Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the Kimmel Center Theater Residency.
