Migguel Anggelo Responds to Attacks Against LGBTQ Community with One-Man Show

In response to Trump's presidency, there has been a surge of art that serves to resist his agenda. On October 26th, 27th and 29th, singer, songwriter, performer and activist Migguel Anggelo is adding his voice to the resistance as part of The Fearless Series: presented by The Clemente Cultural Center.

Prompted by the Trump administration's bigoted ideology, the series was born as a direct response to Orlando and the continuing attacks against the LGBTQ community. As hate crimes continue to plague our country, and marginalized groups struggle to find sanctuary, The Clemente has invited six LGBTQ artists/art organizations to create works connected by the theme of understanding and unity.

Migguel's one-man show, Welcome to La Misa, Baby, is an ode to a place that has served as a haven for queer culture: the disco. Using music, dance, and a kaleidoscope of personalities, Anggelo delves into the Latino immigrant experience, what it means to be gay in America today, and what beats in the queer heart of the Latino-American tribe. This show is filled with both humor and poignancy in equal measure.

Tickets: $15, with a reduced rate of $12 when buying 10 or more tickets. Purchase in advance at www.clemente-fearless-series.eventbrite.com or at the box office on day of performance. For additional information visit www.theclementecenter.org or call (212) 260-408.

Migguel Anggelo is breaking barriers on the American stage, creating unique works that are reflective of the multicultural, multi-lingual, changing demographics of our country and times. The Brooklyn based, Venezuelan born artist began his career at 13 as Pinocchio in a South American touring production of the Broadway musical. He trained for a dozen years in classical ballet, studied voice at the Conservatory of Music in Cologne, Germany, has written music throughout all of his journeys as an immigrant in several countries, and has released two albums, the most recent being, La Casa Azul (cowritten/produced by musical director, Mau Quiros and mixed by Grammy Award-winner Felipe Tichauer).

In addition to performing on many of the world's greatest stages including Teatro Teresa Carreño in Caracas, Venezuela; Teatro Insurgentes in Mexico City; Teatro Lola Membrives and Teatro Gran Rex in Buenos Aires, Argentina; and The New World Center in Miami, Florida, Migguel performs regularly at Joe's Pub at The Public Theater in New York City. He has most recently been seen in Another Son of Venezuela, which he developed with Quiros and Obie Award winner David Drake. Previous shows created for Joe's Pub were I, Inmigrante and Between Dreams. Anggelo, Drake, and Quiros were recently awarded a theater residency at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia where they developed Another Son of Venezuela. Last summer, Migguel Anggelo and the Immigrants performed a ten-city concert tour of Russia as a cultural attaché under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State.
