David Van Asselt's A FABLE to Begin Performances 5/3 at Cherry Lane Theatre

piece by piece productions and Rising Phoenix Repertory in association with Rattlestick Playwrights Theater will present the world premiere of A Fable, written by David Van Asselt and directed by Daniel Talbott, beginning Saturday, May 3 at 7pm at the Cherry Lane Theatre, 38 Commerce Street. The opening night is set for Thursday, May 22 at 7pm. A Fable is scheduled to run through Sunday, June 28. (more...)

Today, Red Bull Theater announced the cast for their Staged Concert Reading of Happy End, the musical by Bertolt Brecht & Kurt Weill, translated by Michael Feingold: Nancy Anderson, J. Bernard Calloway, Carson Elrod, Steven Eng, Tom Hewitt, Matthew Maher, Karen Mason, Martin Moran, Alexandra Silber, Price Waldman, Kristine Zbornik, Chip Zien, and more to be announced. Happy End will be directed by Leigh Silverman with music direction by James Cunningham and will take place Monday March 17th at 7:30pm at the Lucille Lortel Theater, 121 Christopher Street, between Bleecker and Hudson Streets. Rising Phoenix Rep to Present BARN, 3/23-4/10

After the critical success of its most recent Off-Broadway production, the Lucille Lortel Award winning All the Rage by Martin Moran (produced with piece by piece productions and The Barrow Group), acclaimed company Rising Phoenix Repertory returns to its longtime downtown home with the world premiere of Barn by Charlotte Miller, directed by Michael Padden. The play will be staged for eleven performances only at the Seventh Street Small Stage, where the company has produced new plays site-specifically for eight years in addition to more than 25 fully produced new plays in its lauded Cino Nights series. The production will run from March 23 - April 10, 2014, and features Brian Miskell, Laura Ramadei, and Sanford Wilson. (more...)

Last night, the Tony Award-winning score from Titanic: The Musical was performed live at Avery Fisher Hall, Lincoln Center, featuring almost the entire cast from the original Broadway musical, over 200 singers, and the enlarged forces of the professional New York City Chamber Orchestra. The production was directed by Don Stephenson, with Music Direction by Kevin Stites. Classic Stage Company presents A MAN'S A MAN, directed by Brian Kulick and featuring a new score and new songs by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik. This production continues CSC's exploration of the works of Bertolt Brecht, which began in 2011 with the sold-out production of Galileo and was followed by last season's The Caucasian Chalk Circle (on which Kulick and Sheik also collaborated). The cast features Justin VivIan Bond(Widow Begbick) are Jason Babinsky (Polly Baker), Gibson Frazier (Galy Gay), Martin Moran (Uriah Shelley), Steven Skybell (Jesse Mahoney), Stephen Spinella (Bloody Five), Ching Valdes-Aran (Mr. Wang) and Allan K. Washington (Ensemble). The official opening night is Thursday, January 30. A MAN'S A MAN will play a limited engagement through February 16. Tonight's Performance of CSC's A MAN'S A MAN Cancelled Due to Cast Injury

This evening's performance of Classic Stage Company's production of Bertolt Brecht's A MAN'S A MAN has been cancelled due to an injury last night to cast member Bill Buell (Jeraiah Jip). Buell sustained a fractured ankle while off-stage early in the first act due to a mechanical malfunction involving a ballast weight for a garage door which is part of the show's set design. As there is no understudy for the role, the remainder of last evening's performance had to be cancelled as well as tonight's performance while a replacement actor is found. CSC hopes to resume performances tomorrow. (more...)

Classic Stage Company, under the leadership of Artistic Director Brian Kulick and Executive Director Greg Reiner, has announced complete casting today for its upcoming new production of Bertolt Brecht's A MAN'S A MAN, which begins performances Friday, January 10 at CSC (136 East 13thStreet). A MAN'S A MAN will be directed by Brian Kulick and features a new score and new songs by Tony Award-winning composer Duncan Sheik.
