Last night, THE GOOD WIFE's Julianna Margulies saw MCC Theater's latest show by Halley Feiffer, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City, directed by Trip Cullman. MCC Theater will present a world premiere reading of a new Neil LaBute play-the third in his 'Reasons' trilogy-entitled Reasons to be Pretty Happy. The one-night-only reading, to be held on Monday, June 20, 2016 at 7PM at the Lucille Lortel Theatre, will benefit the nonprofit's robust education and playwright development programs. The Drama Book Shop will welcome back playwright and actress Halley Feiffer for an intimate discussion about her craft and her new play, A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Gynecologic Oncology Unit At Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Of New York City. The play is currently receiving its world premiere at MCC's Lucille Lortel Theatre.  Feiffer and Playwright and Drama Book Shop employee Steven Carl McCasland will discuss her work on Friday, May 27th at 5:00pm. MCC THEATER (Robert LuPone, Bernard Telsey, William Cantler, Artistic Directors; Blake West, Executive Director)—which recently celebrated the groundbreaking of its first-ever home, a two-theater complex on West 52nd Street and 10th Avenue— has just announced its30th Anniversary Season, which will bring together frequent MCC collaborators alongside artists new to the family for a three-play-and-a-musical season, running September 2016 through June 2017. Anchored by four mainstage premieres, the Theater will also continue its new works in development PlayLabs series and robust education initiatives throughout the season. In the 2014-15 season, the NYC theatre industry hit a record high in the 9 years AAPAC has data collected. For the first time, 30% of all available roles went to actors of color, a jump from 24% the previous year. After three years in a row of exceeding the nine-year average of 23%, it seems safe to say that there is a definite upward trend in the casting of actors of color. (more...)

The National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) has announced eleven awards granted from their National Fund for New Musicals, a major funding program to support NAMT member not-for-profit theatres in their collaborations with writers to create, develop and produce new musicals. Now in its eighth year, the Fund will provide grants totaling $43,000 to twelve organizations across the country. (more...)

Beth Behrs, the star of CBS's '2 Broke Girls,' leads the cast of the world premiere of Halley Feiffer's comedy A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Gynecologic Oncology Unit at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center of New York City. Behrs will be joined by Obie winner Lisa Emery, most recently seen on the hit Netflix drama 'Jessica Jones,' as well as stage veteran Jacqueline Sydney. Obie winner Trip Cullman directs the production which begins previews on May 19, 2016 ahead of a June 7, 2016 opening night.
