'Liberty City' by Blank & Thompson Debuts at NYTW Feb.15

New York Theatre Workshop (NYTW) presents 'Liberty City,' written by Jessica Blank and April Yvette Thompson, performed by Thompson, and directed by Blank; to begin performances Friday, February 15, at NYTW. Opening night is scheduled for Tuesday, March 4 at 7PM. The production will run through Sunday, March 16.

'The Brothers Size' Makes Public Theatre World Premiere

The Public Theater will continue its fall season with the world premiere of Tarell Alvin McCraney's new play The Brothers Size, directed by Tea Alagic, and produced in association with The Foundry Theatre who brought The Brothers Size to The Public's 2007 Under the Radar Festival earlier this year where it was the breakout hit of the festival. It will have a full production at The Public Theater October 23 to December 23 with an official press opening on Tuesday, November 6 at 7 PM.

Opening the Tony Award-winning Vineyard Theatre's 2007-08 Season will be the Off-Broadway premiere of The Piano Teacher, a new play by Julia Cho, author of Durango, with previews to begin October 30, prior to its official press opening November 18 at The Vineyard Theatre (108 East 15th Street). Playwright Lynn Nottage has received a MacArthur Foundation 'Genius Award'. She was one of 24 recipients chosen for their creativity, originality and potential and will receive $100,000 annually for the next five years.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation today named 24 new MacArthur Fellows for 2007. The new Fellows work across a broad spectrum of endeavors. They include a biomedical scientist, a blues musician, a forensic anthropologist, an inventor, a medieval historian, and a spider silk biologist. All were selected for their creativity, originality, and potential to make important contributions in the future. This past week, the recipients learned in a phone call from the Foundation that they will each receive $500,000 in 'no strings attached' support over the next five years.
