Trio da Paz returns to the Cooperstown Summer Music Festival on Sunday, August 17 at 7:30 pm. With three of Brazil's most in-demand musicians, Trio da Paz updates and redefines Brazilian jazz with their harmonically adventurous interactions, daring improvisations and dazzling rhythms. Naxos to Release Recording of Richard Danielpour's TOWARD A SEASON OF PEACE Performed by the Pacific Symphony, Today

Pacific Symphony's newest recording of a three-part oratorio crafted by one of the most sought-after composers of his generation, Richard Danielpour, is set to be released by Naxos on March 25. Written for the Persian holiday of Nowruz in 2012, “Toward a Season a Peace” was premiered by Pacific Symphony, conducted by Music Director Carl St.Clair, in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Orange County, Calif. The work features Pacific Chorale (Artistic Director John Alexander) and Grammy-winning soprano Hila Plitmann. By weaving together sacred passages with texts by the great Sufi poet Rumi, Danielpour explores violence and war in the name of religion, using the season of spring as a metaphor for change and transformation. The work was commissioned for the Symphony's 2012 American Composers Festival, “Nowruz—Celebrating Spring,” presented in collaboration with the Farhang Foundation. (more...)

On Saturday, April 5 at 9:30 p.m. in Zankel Hall, guitarist Romero Lubambo, bassist Nilson Matta, and drummer Duduka da Fonseca-the three renowned Brazilian musicians that make up Trio da Paz-perform a program featuring the works of famed Brazilian composer Antonio Carlos Jobim and celebrated American tenor saxophonist Stan Getz. The trio, known for its innovative take on Brazilian jazz, is joined for this program by tenor saxophonist Harry Allen, vibraphonist Joe Locke, and vocalist Maucha Adnet. Renowned bass John Relyea, who is performing in the Metropolitan Opera's current production of Rusalka with Renée Fleming; rising young soprano Lori Guilbeau, a 2010 George London Award winner; and pianist Warren Jones will share the stage for the second event in the season's George London Foundation Recital Series on Sunday, March 9, 2014, at 4:30 PM at The Morgan Library & Museum. The series presents pairs of outstanding opera singers, many of whom were winners of a George London prize early in their careers or are recent George London Award recipients. The Met to Celebrate James Levine's 70th Birthday with Special Programming on Sirius XM this Weekend

The Metropolitan Opera will celebrate its longtime Music Director James Levine's 70th birthday with two full days of special programming on Met Opera Radio (Sirius XM Channel 74). The weekend-long marathon will feature 14 classic Levine performances, hand-picked by the maestro himself, beginning on Saturday, June 22 and continuing through midnight on Levine's birthday, Sunday, June 23. The first broadcast, at 6 a.m. Saturday, will be a 1991 performance of Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera starring Luciano Pavarotti; the celebration will conclude at 12 a.m. on Monday, June 24 with a 1994 performance of Verdi's rarely heard Stiffelio, starring Placido Domingo in the title role.
