Oliver Dowden Says UK Arts Rescue Package Is Primarily About Preserving 'Institutions'

As we previously reported, the UK Government has finally announced a rescue package for the arts. Speaking on BBC Radio 4's Today programme this morning, the UK Culture Secretary Oliver Dowden emphasised that this funding is about preserving those institutions 'of national and international significance', but should also benefit cultural institutions across the country.

At an online media announcement - pre-taped in front of Meridian Hall with physically distanced protocols in place - streamed June 8 on the Dora Awards YouTube channel, the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts (TAPA) announced 243 nominations for the 41st annual Dora Mavor Moore Awards.

At its height in the late 90s, Who Wants to be a Millionaire was must-see television. Hosted by Chris Tarrant, the show premiered in 1998 and was an overnight ratings sensation. After an unwavering run of success, controversy reared its head in 2001. Major Charles Ingram bagged the big prize, only to later be exposed as a cheat thanks to an accomplice who coughed to signal each correct answer. The show's life went on, but in many ways its once bright light had been irrevocably dimmed.
